SEASONAL GROWER ASSISTANT in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania at Longwood Gardens

Longwood Gardens is seeking a seasonal Greenhouse Grower Assistant to support our Floriculture team this spring into summer[KM1] . The individual in this position will perform a variety of tasks under the direction of our experienced Growers. Tasks for this position will be performed in small groups and independently. Responsibilities include:

• Staking, tying, pinching/pruning, potting, transplanting, watering, fertilizing, soil mixing, irrigation maintenance and assisting with the upkeep and cleanliness of work areas.
• Grooming of plants as they are prepared for display throughout the Gardens.
• Assist with transporting potted plants to and from growing areas, which involves occasionally working around trucks, lift gates, forklifts, and utility vehicles.

This seasonal position will average 4-5 days a week with the workday starting at 6:30 AM. Some weekend work will be required, as needed.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• The ability to perform manual, repetitive tasks independently
• The ability to work in all weather conditions (heat, rain, cold, etc)
• The ability to lift at least 50 pounds
• The ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, and walk for long periods
• The ability to work inside and outside
• The ability to lift and carry items as needed for tasks
• Prior horticultural experience and/or knowledge preferred – we will train motivated individuals
• A valid driver’s license (required)
