Position Summary:

The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor oversees daily shipping and receiving operations and provides direct supervision, training, and support to department employees. This position coordinates inbound and outbound shipments, maintains organized dock and storage areas, and ensures work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with Jensen Meat Company’s safety, quality, and food safety requirements.

The supervisor works closely with drivers, carriers, customers, Production, Customer Service, and other internal departments to support timely product movement and accurate shipping and receiving documentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Department Operations

  • Direct and prioritize daily assignments for shipping and receiving employees.
  • Review outbound orders and coordinate product selection, staging, and shipment preparation.
  • Coordinate inbound deliveries and outbound shipments with company drivers, common carriers, parcel services, and less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers.
  • Review and process shipping and receiving documentation, including forwarding the previous day’s shipping paperwork to Customer Service.
  • Use the company’s ERP system to review orders, record transactions, and maintain accurate shipping, receiving, and inventory information.
  • Monitor the organization and storage of products in the freezer, cooler, and dry storage areas.
  • Coordinate pallet pickup and delivery as needed.
  • Communicate staffing needs, operational concerns, and overtime requests to management. Ensure overtime receives appropriate authorization.

Employee Supervision and Training

  • Train employees on department procedures, equipment use, safety practices, and food handling requirements.
  • Communicate work expectations clearly and provide consistent direction and feedback.
  • Monitor employee performance and conduct routine checks to verify that established procedures are followed.
  • Lead by example and promote teamwork, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Address routine operational issues and refer employee concerns to management and Human Resources as appropriate.

Safety, Food Safety, and Facility Standards

  • Conduct beginning-of-shift inspections of the dock, west yard, freezer, cooler, and dry storage areas.
  • Maintain clean, orderly workstations and department areas.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and applicable Safe

Quality Food (SQF) program requirements.

  • Identify and promptly report equipment damage, mechanical concerns, unsafe conditions, and food safety or quality issues.
  • Coordinate with management and authorized service contractors regarding equipment service needs.
  • Support corrective actions and continuous improvement efforts related to safety, quality, and department operations.
  • Operate electric forklifts and pallet jacks when required and only after completing applicable training and authorization.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assume designated department leadership responsibilities in the Shipping & Receiving Manager’s absence.
  • Complete other related duties assigned by management.
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish
  • Two to five years of shipping and receiving experience, including experience supervising employees.
  • Experience using an ERP system for shipping, receiving, order processing, or inventory transactions.
  • Working knowledge of logistics, carrier coordination, and shipping and receiving documentation.
  • Experience operating electric forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Ability to follow and reinforce company procedures, safety requirements, GMPs, and SQF standards.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The position requires regular walking, standing, bending, and climbing, as well as lifting and moving materials weighing up to 60 pounds. Duties include operating shipping and receiving equipment and working in freezer, cooler, warehouse, and dock areas.

Employees may be exposed to temperatures ranging from approximately 0°F to 40°F, noise, moving equipment, and wet or slippery surfaces. Required personal protective equipment and safe work practices must be followed. Essential functions may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
