HR & Safety Generalist in McGregor, Texas at Behlen Mfg Co.

Position Summary:

The HR & Safety Generalist supports the daily Human Resources and Safety functions for the McGregor, TX manufacturing location. This position provides HR and Safety support to employees and leaders while helping maintain a safe, compliant, and positive work environment.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on, organized professional who enjoys working with employees and leaders, solving problems, supporting training, and being active on the manufacturing floor.

Key Responsibilities

Human Resources:

• Provide HR guidance and support to employees, supervisors, and team leaders.
• Assist with employee relations, investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
• Support recruiting for production positions, including posting jobs, screening candidates, interviews, and pre-employment processes.
• Process new hires and employee changes in the HRIS and maintain personnel files.
• Coordinate onboarding and new-hire training.
• Assist with benefits, performance management, employee engagement, recognition, and retention initiatives.
• Maintain job descriptions, HR records, and reports.
• Ensure HR practices comply with federal, state, and local employment laws.
• Maintain confidentiality of employee and company information.
• Support HR and company-wide initiatives and events.
• Provide excellent customer service to employees at all levels.
• Maintain accurate HR, safety, and training records.
• Stay current on HR laws, OSHA requirements, and industry best practices.
• Travel to other locations may be required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety:

• Support and maintain site safety programs in compliance with OSHA, company, state, and federal requirements.
• Conduct new-hire, annual, and job-specific safety training.
• Maintain training records and track required certifications.
• Support safety programs including HAZCOM, LOTO, PPE, confined space, fall protection, powered industrial trucks, crane safety, electrical safety, and other applicable programs.
• Conduct workplace observations and identify safety and training opportunities.
• Participate in incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
• Assist with corrective actions and safe-work practices.
• Maintain OSHA 300/300A records and safety documentation.
• Monitor and assist with workers' compensation cases.
• Support First Aid/CPR and other safety initiatives.
• Assist with internal and external safety audits.

Training & Employee Development

• Partner with supervisors and managers to identify training needs.
• Develop and maintain training materials and presentations.
• Coordinate hands-on training and skills assessments.
• Support training for new hires, promotions, transfers, and existing employees.
• Evaluate training effectiveness and make improvements as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Safety, or a related field preferred.
• 2+ years of HR, Safety, or related experience; manufacturing experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of HR practices and employment laws.
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety.
• Experience with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations professionally.
• Ability to work effectively with employees and leaders at all levels.
• Comfortable working on the manufacturing floor and around industrial equipment.
• Ability to lead engaging, hands-on training.
• First Aid/CPR, PIT, or other safety certifications are a plus.

Physical & Work Environment

• Combination of office and manufacturing-floor work.
• Ability to stand and walk throughout the facility for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Must be able to wear required PPE.
• Regular exposure to manufacturing equipment, forklifts, cranes, welders, industrial noise, and other production hazards.
