Are you an experienced Practice Group Leader looking for an opportunity to make an impact in a growing specialty insurance organization?
Arbour Specialty is seeking a motivated Practice Group Leader to join our personal lines underwriting team focusing on the Southeast US market.
Under the direction of the President, the Practice Group Leader is responsible for the strategic direction, operational performance, and growth of the Personal Lines division within the company. This leader is responsible for driving initiatives, maintaining carrier relationships, ensuring compliance and operational excellence, and fostering a high-performing, client-centric culture. The Practice Group Leader must have profound knowledge of the Personal Lines insurance industry and proven ability to develop strategy, streamline processes, and drive scalable operational performance.
What You'll DoKey responsibilities include:
Strategic Leadership
- Set vision, direction, and strategic priorities for the Personal Lines Group
- Develop and execute growth strategies for the Personal Lines Insurance Vertical
- Monitor industry trends and market conditions to adapt strategies accordingly
- Align operational goals with broader business objectives
Operational Strategy & Execution
- Ensure exceptional client experience through oversight of service quality and operational delivery
- Develop and implement operational strategies to support brokerage growth and profitability
- Collaborate with executive leadership on operational priorities and organizational goals, in alignment with broader business objectives
- Implement organizational and process improvement strategies for all Personal Lines service functions
- Integrate new and existing teams into operational structure
Team Management & Development
- Lead, mentor, and manage teams of Underwriters and Associate Underwriters across the firm
- Establish performance goals, monitor KPIs, and conduct regular evaluations
- Build and continue to refine an overall structure that supports the needs of the Personal Lines practice
- Define role clarity across the Personal Lines practice
- Foster a collaborative and accountable team culture focused on continuous improvement
Operational & Financial Performance
- Drive profitability and operational efficiency within the practice group
- Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and business plans for the Personal Lines division
- Ensure compliance with licensing, E&O guidelines, and industry regulations
- Leverage data and analytics for continuous improvement
Process Improvement & Innovation
- Evaluate and improve workflows, technology use, and team structure to enhance efficiency
- Champion the adoption of tools and resources that support productivity and client service excellence
- Lead initiatives related to digital transformation, automation, and analytics
Financial Oversight & Reporting
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives
- Analyze operational expenses and recommend cost-efficiency strategies
- Provide regular reporting on operational metrics, team performance, and process improvements
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred
- Property & Casualty and Surplus Lines insurance licenses are required.
Professional designations, such as Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) preferred - Minimum 15+ years’ experience in Personal Lines insurance
- Minimum 10+ years of leadership experience in a brokerage or carrier environment
- Demonstrated experience running a Personal Lines practice group
- Proven track record in managing profit and loss statements
- Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation skills, and “executive presence" are critical for interacting with clients, team members, and senior leadership
- Ability to solve complex problems and think analytically to determine appropriate insurance policies is crucial for this leadership position
- Ability to build trust, inspire a team, manage change, and develop talent
