Job Description

Commercial HVAC/R Technical Support Specialist

šŸ“ Atlantic Canada | Full-Time, Permanent | Commercial HVAC/R

ABOUT THE ROLE

Are you an experienced commercial HVAC/R technician who thrives on solving complex problems in commercial and light industrial systems? Kerr Controls is looking for a sharp, customer-focused Commercial Technical Support Specialist to be a trusted resource for our customers and field teams across Atlantic Canada.

In this role, you'll draw on your hands-on experience with commercial systems — from rooftop units and VRF systems to chillers, make-up air units, and commercial refrigeration. You'll provide expert technical support, conduct training, and help our customers get the most out of Kerr's applied product lines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide commercial post-sales technical support via phone, email, and onsite visits

• Troubleshoot a wide range of equipment and controls

• Lead technical training sessions for customers and internal staff, tailored to commercial and light industrial audiences

• Offer mixed on-site and remote startup assistance

• Work efficiently both as part of the Kerr Applied team, with input on pre-sales design and commissioning considerations, while assisting the broader Kerr Tech Support team in managing a high volume of inbound calls, with a focus on commercial requests

• Conduct onsite assessments and equipment evaluations across your territory as needed

• Collaborate with the warranty department to evaluate and process warranty claims in accordance with Kerr's policies

• Maintain clear, professional communication with customers and manufacturer partners

• Prepare detailed reports on technical issues, root causes, and recommended solutions

• Travel within your designated region (Atlantic Canada or Ontario), with occasional national and international travel for manufacturer training

WHAT YOU BRING

Experience & Credentials

• Completion of an HVAC/R Technical program, with 5–10 years of hands-on field experience

• Demonstrated experience in commercial/light industrial HVAC/R service and installation

• Solid understanding of commercial systems in air- and water-side heating, cooling, ventilation, controls, pumps, and refrigeration

• Valid driver's license and clean driving record

• Additional accreditation in engineering or trades fields would be considered an asset, as would experience in estimating, accounting, project management, or customer service

Skills & Attributes

• Physically able to work on ladders, rooftops, and in confined spaces (crawlspaces, attics) in varying weather conditions for extended periods

• Strong diagnostic skills — able to interpret wiring diagrams, refrigerant circuit schematics, and manufacturer documentation

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; confident presenting to large groups

• Skilled at conflict resolution and de-escalating difficult customer situations

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

• Professional demeanour with the ability to stay calm under pressure

• Bilingual (French/English) considered a strong asset

• Willingness to be flexible and to balance competing priorities in a high-pressure environment

• Appreciation for teamwork

WHAT WE OFFER

• Competitive compensation package based on your experience and qualifications

• Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits

• Additional life insurance and disability coverage options

• Paid vacation time

• Company-matched Retirement Savings Plan (RPP)

• Confidential Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP)

• Employee Referral Program

• Access to ongoing manufacturer training — nationally and internationally
