Essential Functions

The ELL Teacher will design and implement language instruction, provide support and guidance to ELL students and collaborate with other teachers and staff to create a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

Using the school’s criteria for ELL placement, identify students who qualify for English Language supplemental services and determine the level and nature of services for each studentDesign and implement engaging instruction either in the general education classroom or in pull-out sessions that leads to English language fluency in both conversational and academic situationsAdminister annual English language assessments to students who are part of the ELL programCollaborate with general education teachers to ensure that general education classroom environments and learning experiences support English Language LearnersServe as a resource to families in understanding the ELL program and their individual student’s learning progress and needsWork with the ELL team and the Principal to identify staff development needs in best practices in English language acquisition and plan workshops to meet those needsAs needed, participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings, IEP meetings, weekly Academic and Social StudentSupport meetings, and other student-centered meetingsMaintain files for English Language Learning students that include assessment data, evidence of serviceprovision, student work samples, and parent contact logsRemain up-to-date in English Language Learning/Bilingual Education law, regulations, research, and best practices

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, ELL, Literacy or equivalentPA Intern, Level I or II Certification requiredClear understanding of standards-based and differentiated instruction, language acquisition, and EnglishStrong collaborative capabilities and proven ability to work as a member of a teamCommitment to meeting the needs of every child in a diverse populationAbility to individualize instruction according to the learning styles, interests, and cognitive processing skills of studentsCommitment to his/her own learning and professional developmentWillingness to share expertise and resources with students, families, and staff

Salary: Minimum starting salary of $59,000. Placement above the minimum will be adjusted based on relevant experience, credentials, and demonstrated expertise.
