Staples Construction Company is looking for Laborers that will work on a civil project that is seasonal servicing Cal Trans on PCH. The work will be performed for about 3 months; it will be Prevailing Wage rate at $74.29 an hour with fringes. We are a non-union affiliated company.
The General Civil Laborer 1 to support the civil department. This Civil Laborer 1 will be responsible for safely supporting operation crews with preparing and maintaining construction projects at demolition, building, highway, and heavy construction sites, and excavations.
Job Description:
- Assist in preparing job site by removing material including but not limited to debris, rocks, dirt, concrete, asphalt, and other material.
- Perform daily job site and equipment inspections.
- Perform job site clean-up and maintain job site free of hazards.
- Perform inspections and maintenance of equipment, tools, and machinery.
- Install and maintain perimeter barricades, fencing and screening.
- Operate various hand tools and equipment including but not limited to picks, shovels, powered tools, jackhammers, saws, tampers, roto hammers, and drills.
- Operate basic surveying/layout equipment including but not limited to, tape measure, level, pipe laser, etc.
- Handle, secure, load and unload construction materials, tools, and machinery.
- Dig holes or trenches, utilizing hand tools.
- Cut, grind, break up, and demolish concrete and asphalt using various hand tools.
- Shovel, excavate, backfill, and compact various materials including but limited to asphalt, concrete, flagstone, earth, and rocks.
- Assist subgrade work with mixing, pouring, and finishing concrete.
- Assist with setting structures, building, and moving forms, cutting lumber, and strip/patch.
- Assemble and dismantle shoring, barricades, and other temporary structures.
- Flag and control traffic on roadways.
- May operate equipment including but not limited to skid steers, forklifts, water truck, and light vehicles.
- Support Carpenters, Masons, Operators, and other specialized trades as required.
- Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to wear a full body harness and work at heights while tied off.
- Ability to work, day, swing, and night shifts (occasionally extended hours).
- Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work in safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment.
- Ability to squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions/confined spaces.
- Must be able to read and write in the business language.
- Must be able to perform simple mathematical calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, etc.)

- This role will be physically demanding at times and will require you to work extended hours in various types of environments and weather conditions.
- Candidates must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to job sites in and around Ventura County & LA County.

Pay Range:
$24 - $27 an hour, DOE and project site. Some projects provide prevailing wage pay, the project types do fluctuate, and the rate of pay could be impacted based on project type. A base hourly rate will be determined if job offer is extended.
At Staples Construction, pay ranges are assigned to a job based on the location specific market median of similar jobs according to third party benchmark surveys. Individual pay within that range can vary for several reasons including skills/capabilities, experience, and available budget.

· Concrete, Water Curing
· Demolition Laborer, the cleaning of brick if performed by an employee performing any other phase of demolition work, and the cleaning of lumber

· Gas, Oil and/or Water Pipeline Laborer
· Laborer, Asphalt-Rubber Material Loader
· Laborer, General or Construction
· Laborer, General Cleanup
· Laborer, Jetting
· Laborer, Temporary Water and Air Lines
· Plugging, Filling of Shee-Bolt Holes; Dry Packing of Concrete and Patching
· Post Hole Digger (Manual)

· Tool Crib or Tool House Laborer
· Wire Mesh Pulling - All Concrete Pouring Operations
Requirements:Work Experience:
- A minimum of 1 years of construction experience.
Required Qualifications:
- Install new pipes around a property using an eclectic assortment of tools, including transit levels, grade rods and levels.
- Read and follow plans to install and connect pipe runs and appurtenant structures per project specifications.
- Layout and excavate trenches, per staking, for installation of pipes and backfill once they are in place with the approved materials.
- Pothole and locate existing underground structures.
- Train other pipelayers in the process and supervise new hires initially to ensure they can work independently.
- Operate proper tools and equipment to perform the allotted task.
- Must have smart phone to record time worked.
Physical Demands:
- Physical dexterity, stamina, and excellent hand-eye coordination with ability to: grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down.
- Lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. or more.
