Job Description

Position Summary

The SMT Inspection & Test Technician is responsible for inspecting printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) following the SMT reflow process using automated optical inspection (AOI) equipment and performing board testing as required. This position serves as a critical quality checkpoint, helping to ensure that only boards meeting quality standards continue through the manufacturing process.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in electronics manufacturing and quality inspection. Training will be provided on the operation of our Parmi AOI inspection system and board testing procedures. As experience is gained, employees will develop the skills necessary to recognize inspection defects, distinguish false failures from true defects, and become proficient in AOI inspection techniques.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Receive PCB assemblies directly from the SMT reflow process for inspection.
  2. Operate Parmi Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment to inspect assembled circuit boards.
  3. Review AOI inspection results and identify boards requiring further evaluation.
  4. Route boards requiring repair to the rework department in accordance with established procedures.
  5. Perform board testing as required using company test equipment and documented procedures.
  6. Accurately document inspection and test results.
  7. Maintain a steady production flow through the AOI and testing process.
  8. Monitor equipment operation and notify appropriate personnel of equipment issues.
  9. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient inspection and testing workstation.
  10. Work closely with SMT machine operators, rework technicians, engineering, and quality personnel to resolve production issues.
  11. Follow all ESD, quality, and safety procedures.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Manufacturing or electronics assembly experience is helpful but not required.
  3. SMT inspection or AOI experience is a plus; training will be provided for motivated candidates.
  4. Basic computer skills.
  5. Ability to read and follow work instructions and production documentation.
  6. Excellent attention to detail and strong observational skills.
  7. Ability to maintain focus while performing repetitive inspection tasks.

Preferred Experience

  1. Electronics manufacturing or PCB assembly.
  2. SMT production or inspection experience.
  3. AOI inspection experience.
  4. Electronic testing experience.
  5. Experience working with Parmi AOI equipment is a plus but is not required.

Skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to identify inconsistencies and potential quality issues.
  • Mechanical and technical aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining production flow.
  • Commitment to quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

Career Growth Opportunity

This position offers an excellent pathway into advanced electronics manufacturing. As experience is gained, employees will receive additional training to understand AOI inspection principles, identify true defects versus false inspection calls, and assist in optimizing AOI inspection programs by refining component inspection parameters to improve inspection accuracy. Additional opportunities for advancement into SMT Machine Operator and other technical manufacturing roles may become available as our manufacturing operations continue to expand.
