Description:

The primary purpose of your job position is the protection, safeguarding, and security of assets, employees, Residents and all visitors, and as may be directed by your supervisor, to assist with crises such as flood, fire, etc.

DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY

As Security Officer you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

A criteria-based performance evaluation will be done using components of this job description and documentation of your daily activities.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS

1.1 Assure that security schedules are followed as outlined for respective shift or area.

1.2 File complaints/grievances with your supervisor.

1.3 Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by your supervisor, department director and/or administrator.

1.4 Clock in/out appropriately at the beginning/end of the shift.

2. STAFF DEVELOPMENT

2.1 Attend and participate in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs.

2.2 Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, etc., as directed.

3. SECURITY SERVICES

3.1 Receive and follow security schedule/instructions from your supervisor and as outlined in our established security policies and procedures.

3.2 Perform routine patrol through the building, parking areas, driveways, etc., checking for unlocked doors, unknown visitors, suspicious activities, safety and fire hazards, etc.

3.3 Maintains communication with the Clinical Resource and Charges Nurses to ensure all is well in the facility on the evening and night shifts.

3.4 Provide assistance or direction to visitors as needed.

3.5 Write incident reports, as needed.

3.6 Perform unscheduled patrol as directed.

4. SAFETY AND SANITATION

4.1 Follow all established safety procedures and precautions when performing security service.

4.2 Maintain Security office in good repair, ensuring a safe, clean and orderly environment.

4.3 Report all incidents/accidents, no matter how minor, to your supervisor immediately. (NOTE: Such occurrences must be reported on the shift in which they occur.)

4.4 Report all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc. as found on patrol, to your supervisor immediately.

4.5 Keep your work area(s) free of hazardous conditions, i.e., extension cords, excess supplies, equipment, etc., to assure that all established safety rules/regulations are followed at all times.

4.7 Follow established fire safety policies and procedures.

4.8 Dispose of refuse daily in accordance with our established sanitation procedures.

4.9 Use protective clothing/devices when performing tasks that involve the handling of infectious waste and/or blood/body fluids.

4.10 Other(s) that may become necessary/appropriate to assure that our facility is secured in a safe and comfortable manner.

5. EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES FUNCTIONS

5.1 Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to your supervisor as soon as possible.

5.2 Assure Security office supplies have been replenished in work areas as necessary.

5.3 Assure that the facility is secure for visitor safety and convenience.

5.4 Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using security gates.

5.5 Keep supervisor informed of supply needs.

5.6 Assist others in lifting heavy equipment, supplies, etc. as directed or requested.

6. RESIDENT RIGHTS

6.1 Maintain the confidentiality of resident information.

6.2 Honor the residents' personal and property rights.

6.3 Knock before entering a resident's room.

8. MISCELLANEOUS

8.1 Turn in all found articles to your supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in all areas of the facility.

Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.

Is subject to frequent interruptions and may need backtrack to ensure adequate patrol of campus.

Is involved with residents, employees, visitors, government agencies, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.

Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.

Communicates with Security employees and other department personnel.

Works beyond normal duty hours, when necessary.

Attends and participates in continuing education programs.

Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, etc.

May be required to work on weekends and holidays.

May be required to work on shifts other than the one for which hired.

Must be able to work the hours required of the position.

Must be able to adhere to all policies and procedures of St. Simeon's including absenteeism or tardiness as well as all approved policies.

EDUCATION

Must possess, as a minimum, a H.S. education, plus CLEET certification.

EXPERIENCE

None. On-the-job training provided.

Requirements:

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions and to accept constructive criticism.

Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/employees, and the general public.

Must be a minimum of sixteen (16) years of age.

Must maintain the care and use of security gate and other security-specific equipment.

Must be willing to work harmoniously with other employees as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.

Must have the ability to minimize waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc.

Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing security practices.

Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.

Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.

Must have good working knowledge of security operations, safety practices in a similar environment.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

Must be able to move and bend intermittently throughout the work day.

Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.

Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately.

Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents and personnel.

Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
