Job Description

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Mechanical Controls Technician is responsible and accountable for the installation, maintenance, and care of all production equipment, production line setup, and maintaining the material handling equipment in all facilities of the company, under the direction of the Maintenance Manager.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

  • Ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and program Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's) including Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix and SLC500, and Siemens; Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs); VFD and servo drives; I/O; instrumentation; inspection cameras; and robots
  • Knowledge of and capability to install and troubleshoot industrial automation networks (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet and Profibus)
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical circuits (3-phase 480/208/220 VAC, 120 VAC, 24 VAC and VDC control circuits)
  • Practical skills reading, understanding, and modifying user documentation (electrical schematic drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals)
  • Capability to analyze process flow to identify issues
  • Ensure that production equipment is running and is repaired as quickly and efficiently as possible
  • Troubleshooting, set up, and machine problems
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on machinery, equipment, and material handling equipment to ensure its safe operation
  • Assist the Maintenance Manager in training factory personnel in the safe use and adjustment of our equipment
  • Perform special maintenance functions on the building at the request of the Maintenance Manager
  • Assist in maintaining and organizing the maintenance work area as well as the machinery, change parts, spare parts, and hand tools used in each of the departments
  • Assist in the moving of departments, installation of machinery and equipment, electrical, plumbing, and construction of leasehold improvements
  • Be responsible for reporting and repairing any safety violations or problems
  • Maintain safe maintenance practices in performance of work and implement lockout/tagout procedures when working on production equipment
  • Or such other duties and responsibilities as the company may from time to time assign.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Completes projects and tasks assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor
  • Troubleshoots equipment problems including electrical circuits (3-phase 480/208/220 VAC, 120 VAC, 24 VAC and VDC control circuits)
  • Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, VFD’s, servo motors, motors for industrial equipment
  • Reviews weekly, with the Maintenance Manager, the Preventive Maintenance schedule
  • Participates in line changeovers
  • Responds to and corrects any safety problems brought to the attention of the department

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working in a GMP environment preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • 3+ years’ experience in the manufacturing industry preferred
  • Experience with HMI, Ethernet/IP specific systems preferred

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to perform routine repair of existing Plant equipment
  • Ability to perform routine preventive maintenance on all equipment and fiscal plant
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Knowledge of GMP and cleaning practices
  • Ability to weld and use machine shop equipment

SPECIAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to be on their feet 8 hours a day
