The Recreation department of the Community Engagement and Cultural Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Fitness Trainer at Meadow Park Sports Centre (MPSC). Reporting to the Recreation Programmer – Fitness Studio, this position offers up to 50 hours bi-weekly during the operational hours of 6 am to 9 pm. This position requires work on the weekend, as well as on weekdays.
The Fitness Trainer’s role in the weightroom is to provide customer service, ensure safe use of equipment, provide orientations, guidance to new users, and to develop personal training programs and other group training programs as required. The Fitness Trainer will ensure a safe and clean workout environment by performing cleaning duties, overseeing volunteers, ensuring equipment is properly stored, and that patrons are following the Fitness Centre rules. The Fitness Trainer is knowledgeable in their field of expertise, can demonstrate the exercises to perfect form, and is able to detect and correct participants’ exercise technique.
Qualified candidates possess a valid BCRPA Weight Trainer or equivalent Personal Training certification and a valid Standard First Aid with CPR-C with at least 1 year of experience as Fitness Trainer with proven ability to create and deliver personal training programs to a wide range of abilities including special populations. A valid Group Fitness Certification and/or CSEP, KINES, NSCA Certifications and previous experience as a group fitness instructor are an asset. Qualified candidates demonstrate knowledge in many aspects of fitness, including the latest fitness trends and is current with other offerings at Meadow Park Sports Centre. Qualified candidates have knowledge and experience with the safe operation of Fitness Centre strength and cardio machines; and is comfortable learning computer software booking programs. Qualified candidates must also be physically able to coach fitness programs to their clients with the ability to move 45lb weight.

The starting wage for this job position is $30.57 per hour. In addition to the hourly wage, casual employees at the RMOW receive 12% of their regular earnings in lieu of employee benefits.
As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Police Information Check prior to beginning employment.
