Job Title: CNC Operator II

Location: Troy, AL

Classification: Non-exempt

Department: CNC

Reports To: CNC Supervisor / Manufacturing Operations

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The CNC Operator II will operate equipment according to established procedures in a safe and quality manner. Dimensional measurements will be required during the operation of equipment to assure compliance to requirements. Adjustments to the equipment will be executed during the operation of equipment to meet established run rates and part accuracy. This involves performing First Piece Inspection and continuous Quality activities. Equipment will include Mills, Lathes, CNC’s and screw machines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Make suggestions, or comprehend activities associated with S, Q, D, C, I measures
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently in times of needs/ requirement.
  • Comprehend and understand CNC machine tool methods and procedures.
  • Lead/participate in tool selection during the development and implementation of fixtures for new product development.
  • Troubleshoot new/existing CNC programs during set-up / prove-out of equipment.
  • Ability to understand and recommend changes to programs for multi-axis machines such as mill turns, verticals with additional axis,
  • Ability to use and troubleshoot conventional fabrication equipment. Such as lathes, mills, grinders, broaches, hones, etc.…
  • Comprehend and follow standard work, tool setup sheets, and standard operations for production jobs.
  • Understand trouble shoot various problems (improper tooling, dull tools, wrong location of machined feature, code errors, etc.) and develop corrective action to prevent reoccurrence
  • Perform Quality Assurance activities while operating equipment (Optical systems, calipers, gages, indicators)
  • Participate in Productive Maintenance activity


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


Training activities in fabrication, set-up and operation of manufacturing equipment in the machining department.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Interpret technical prints (GD&T)
  • Must have intermediate knowledge of CNC machine “G-Code” and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience maintaining and changing tools
  • Experience with conventional manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience determining offsets and adjusting accordingly
  • Interpret Work Orders and enter data into the Manufacturing database (ERP)
  • Ability and experience in CNC setup
  • Must be able to execute the daily TPM requirements as trained by Kimber management. This process shall utilize Kimber supplied training along with pictorial and written reference sheets located on each machine in the CNC department.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Preferred:

  • 6-9 year of experience in machining
  • Vocational/Technical Degree
  • Lean manufacturing experience
  • Kaizen event experience
  • 5S knowledge and experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS


Ability to read, write, listen and follow instructions. Ability to read blueprints.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Basic shop math and precision measurement skills.

REASONING ABILITIY

Ability to make adjustments as needed by following SOP’s.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travel will normally be less than 5% (training, equipment development, satellite facility support).

Attendance is an essential job requirement defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance including the ability to work regular hours and shifts, overtime before and after shifts and on weekends. Ability to work as part of a team, including all related departments/plants or independently as required to achieve internal and external customer satisfaction.

While performing the duties of the job the employee works in a manufacturing environment and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.

The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds. The vision requirements include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK AUTHORIZATION

This position requires compliance with the Export Administration Regulations ("EAR"). Must be a "U.S. Person" as defined by all pertinent regulations and are required to show proof substantiating this upon being hired.
