We are seeking an accomplished Senior Electrical Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team in Alexandria, VA. This role offers the opportunity to lead and mentor a diverse team of electrical professionals while overseeing the design and execution of complex projects across healthcare, municipal, institutional, transportation, and industrial facilities. The successful candidate will be a licensed Professional Engineer with a strong background in building electrical systems, electrical infrastructure, and low/medium-voltage system design. This position requires technical excellence, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines to deliver innovative, sustainable, and code-compliant solutions. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor an electrical engineering team (senior, mid-level, and entry-level).
- Plan and oversee staffing forecasts, project assignments, and training sessions for the electrical team.
- Lead performance evaluations, goal setting, and professional development of team members.
- Design site and facility electrical systems, including interior/exterior lighting, telecommunications, and low/medium-voltage systems.
- Prepare design documents at all stages: Programming, Schematic Design, Design Development, and Construction Documents.
- Perform calculations (short circuit, voltage drop, building loads, etc.) to support designs.
- Provide construction phase services and resolve design-related installation issues.
- Participate in Value Engineering exercises, project studies, and technical reporting.
- Lead MEP-related project designs, coordinating across disciplines.
- Support proposal preparation and project win strategies for new and repeat business.
- Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships; contribute to business development activities.
- Ensure quality control measures and adherence to company and industry standards.
- Actively coach and mentor junior staff, fostering a culture of learning and technical excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE); registration in Virginia preferred (NCEES reciprocity required for other states).
- Minimum 10 years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA standards, and building/energy codes (IBC, IECC, ASHRAE 90.1).
- Experience with USACE UFC criteria and UFGS specifications.
- Proven expertise in design for healthcare, municipal, institutional, transportation, and industrial facilities.
- Experience in sustainable and high-performance system design; solar/PV design a plus.
- Proficiency with design-build project delivery.
- Technical proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, and power systems analysis software (EasyPower, SKM, ETAP).
- Strong leadership, critical thinking, and client relationship management skills.
