About This Position

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for supporting the Driver Testing & Examiner Training Portfolio Director with coordinating the development & implementation of projects, programs, and best practices/policies related to driver licensing (including both commercial and non-commercial driver licensing) issues, as well as conducting analysis, research, and preparation of reports in support of these programs. This includes but is not limited to CDL and non-CDL programs and issues, including providing expertise and technical knowledge to jurisdictions and serving as a resource for examiners and Driver Licensing program coordinators. This position will also assist with the coordination of the CDL conference and annual train-the-trainer and trainer update classes. This position will conduct research, prepare analysis and write reports in support of assigned projects and programs.

Additionally, under the direction of the Portfolio Director, this position will support the development, coordination, monitoring, and disseminating of information relating to CDL and driver programs for initiating, maintaining and cultivating stakeholder relationships, including working closely with and supporting the activities of the Driver Committee and members and a variety of partners such as NHTSA, FMCSA, contractors, and other agencies in support of the CDL and Driver Licensing area.

Finally, this position will engage members, stakeholders and AAMVA staff on other issues related to driver safety, including but not limited to medical testing and assessments, driver systems involved in identity, voting and other critical areas, and other ad hoc topics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate projects working with jurisdictional members and federal partners. Provide support, advice and direction to working groups, task forces and other ad hoc groups as required. Assist with Organizing and coordinating the annual CDL Coordinators conference, CDL train-the-trainer and CDL trainer update courses. Work with members, partners and contractors to update training materials and disseminate information effectively. Work with contractors and jurisdictional representatives to effectively serve members. (55%)
  2. Conducts research in response to questions received from jurisdictional members or the public, gathers feedback from jurisdictional experts and provides appropriate responses in a timely fashion. (20%)
  3. Assist the Portfolio Director of the Driver Testing and Examiner Training area with staff liaison responsibilities for the Driver Committee as needed; establish, maintain and enhance communication with discipline representatives within the regions as well as other Committees and assist in maintaining timely and accurate content of CDL & driver licensing information on the AAMVA website. (10%)
  4. Reviews of Federal and jurisdiction legislation and rules and provide comments as needed. (5%)
  5. Serve as AAMVA representative or liaison for other organizations concerned with CDL and driver licensing issues. (5%)
  6. Work with the other committees and business area staff to ensure activities are accurate, consistent and coordination between groups/areas is effective and efficient. (5%)

Direct Reports for this Position:

None

Formal Education:

Four-year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent work experience. At least five years of experience in the Driver Testing and Examiner Training areas.

Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in a motor-vehicle related field
  • Extensive practical knowledge and experience in the areas of Examiner training, instruction, and testing required (CDL and non-commercial)
  • Experience in working across and within organizational boundaries.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative and collaborative working environment.
  • The ability to stay organized with multiple priorities and communicate effectively and efficiently with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability and availability to travel extensively (up to 50% of allocated work time under normal travel conditions).
  • Able to communicate effectively and efficiently with a wide variety of stakeholders verbally and in writing, including providing formal presentations before large groups.
  • Minimum of 5 years of driver licensing program management experience
  • Experience in research, writing, public speaking, and training.
  • Working knowledge of information systems functions and capabilities relative to driver testing
  • Experience in project management desired.

This position can be a remote off-site work environment, requiring the employee to be disciplined and able to work independently.
