Overview

This role is responsible for optimizing the financial performance of distributed energy assets across multiple RTOs, utilities, deal structures, and market programs. The position develops deep subject matter expertise in market participation for dispatchable and renewable assets, designs and maintains dispatch optimization models, and integrates power, gas, and contractual positions to maximize value through long term positions, day ahead bid development and real time optimization while ensuring compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Market Expertise
    1. Develop subject matter expertise for value streams and available programs within RTO and markets where dispatchable assets – e.g., engines and batteries - are deployed or planned for deployment.
    2. Coordinate with vendors, RTOs, and utilities as necessary to ensure timely enrollment in identified programs to support strategy execution.
    3. Develop financial forecasts based on approved strategies, program parameters, and expected asset performance.
  2. Asset Optimization
    1. Develop asset optimization models based on asset parameters, load forecasts, market forecasts, contractual commitments and program parameters and coordinate with asset operations.
    2. Integrate asset power and gas positions into asset optimization models.
    3. Identify and quantify impact of financial performance risks along with financial impact of potential risk mitigation strategies and countermeasures to support dispatch strategy development.
    4. Develop recommended commercial optimization and dispatch strategies across all asset positions in collaboration with Asset Operations and support Commercial Operations leadership in strategy finalization.
    5. Collaborate closely with Asset Operations in understanding asset capabilities, variable dispatch costs, ramp rates, start up costs and times, customer impacts, and execution of ongoing dispatch and optimization activities.
  3. Reporting and Analysis
    1. Analyze asset performance reporting and settlements, including assessment of asset as well as commodity (gas and power) settlement performance against forecast.
    2. Develop and track revenue forecasts for monetization of environmental attributes generated by assets – solar, wind, fuel cells, including reporting on variances and optimization opportunities.
    3. Prepare and provide necessary internal reports, tracking mechanisms, and dashboards that describe the financial performance of the distributed energy asset portfolio.

Qualifications, Education, Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering or related fields required with 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of energy markets and RTOs is a plus.
  • Experience with distributed generation preferred.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel and analytical tools for developing analytical and financial models required.
  • High attention to detail mandatory.
  • Exhibits effective organizational, analytical, and communication skills both orally and written.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work in a multi-functional team setting.
