Position Summary:
The Universityof New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine (SOM) Department of Surgery, Division ofCardiothoracic Surgery is seeking an exceptional cardiothoracic surgeon for afull-time faculty position. Thisposition is being recruited at the Open Rank level; salary and rankcommensurate with qualifications and experience. This is an excellent opportunity for a surgeoninterested in academic and clinical opportunities and will be expected toparticipate in clinical care, teaching, and university service.

UNM serves alarge, medically complex population and is a consultative resource for theState of New Mexico and the Four Corners region of the Southwest. Outpatient oncology services are providedthrough the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC), theonly National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mileradius. UNMCCC is one of only 51 cancercenters in the nation to be designated by the NCI as a comprehensive cancercenter, the highest federal designation and rating for cancer centers. UNMCCC's 125 board-certified oncologyspecialty physicians provide comprehensive cancer care in every specialty,adult and pediatric hematologists/medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists,and radiation oncologists. The 130cancer research scientists affiliated with the UNMCCC were awarded almost $60million in federal and private grants and contracts for cancer researchprojects and published 301 high quality publications.

Cardiac surgeryremains an essential component of acute inpatient and outpatient services atUNM as in every other tertiary, safety net hospital in the country; ourbrand-new Critical Care Tower opening October 2025 will provide access tostate-of-the-art operating rooms including biplane hybrid OR, a brand newCTVICU staffed full time with specialized intensivists, and partnership with anationally-recognized vascular surgery team specializing in complex aorticreconstruction.
