SUMMARY:
Allendale Charter Township is hiring a part-time Circulation Assistant for their Allendale, MI library. This position will report to the Library Director. While this position has mostly set hours, there may be times the hours will vary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Projects a positive and pleasant attitude to the public and cooperates and maintains as effective relationship with other staff members as part of a team.
- Inspects and checks library materials in and out at the circulation desk, collects fines, through the use of the integrated library system and cash register by cash, credit card or check.
- Answers telephones, provides routine information or refers and transfers calls, and handles complaints in a friendly and professional manner.
- Gathers different materials and prepares them for patrons or interlibrary loan.
- Operates a variety of standard office and library equipment and assists patrons in using such equipment with excellent customer service.
- Accurately registers patrons for a library card and is knowledgeable about library services.
- Assists with shelving materials when needed.
- May perform routine mending and processing of materials.
- Stays informed of library services, materials, and programming.
- Adheres to library policies and procedures.
- Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES:
The ideal candidate must be able to interact positively and professionally with all patrons who access the library. The candidate must also work efficiently, play close attention to detail, have the ability to read and write in English, the skills to use a computer and learn programs, and work well individually and as part of a team. The ability to be proficient in a library environment is preferred but not required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: | High school diploma or GED required; some college or college degree preferred |
Experience: | Two (2) or more years of customer service desired. Some library experience preferred: clerical procedures and practices |

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No supervisory responsibilities of staff.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without accommodations, including, but not limited to, visual and/or audio logical appliances and devices to increase mobility.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Typical sitting/standing for the duration of shifts while using computers; frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
No travel responsibilities.
