About This Position
Position Summary
The Collections Specialist is responsible for the recovery of unpaid debts related to Workers’ Compensation claims and Employment Services. This includes reviewing outpatient claims to ensure maximum reimbursement, performing timely follow-up, ensuring accurate billing in compliance with payer guidelines, and invoice billing to employers and TPAs.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Compensation: Starting compensation range is $19.00-$21.00 per hour. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze Workers’ Compensation claims to ensure accuracy and optimize reimbursement
- Review and analyze Employer and TPA invoices to ensure accuracy and optimize reimbursement
- Provide appropriate follow-up through heavy outbound calls and written correspondence to insurance companies, third-party administrators, adjusters, bill review organizations, employers, and TPAs
- Resubmit claims electronically as needed, submit corrected claims, and file appeals in accordance with payer requirement
- Follow-up calls on employer and TPA invoices
- Obtain claim status updates and take necessary actions to resolve outstanding balances
- Respond to inquiries from providers, and insurance companies professionally and promptly
- Access patient charts and billing information to confirm claims are processed accurately
- Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of all follow-up actions in the EMR.
- Ensure timely follow-up and resolution of accounts to reduce aging and improve collections
- Accurately enter data
- Other duties may be assigned per department needs
- High school diploma or some college degree certificate or diploma.
- Experience reading and interpreting EORs, EOBs, and payer correspondence
- Minimum of 6 months of experience in medical collections, either in a physician’s office or a medical billing/collections company preferred; new grads welcome to apply!
- Experience reading and interpreting EOBs and resolving denied or unpaid claims independently
- Familiarity with Practice Management Systems, EHR/EMR platforms, and electronic billing software
- Knowledgeable in HIPAA regulations and best practices.
