Job Description

Job Summary

The Engineering Intern supports Salcomp Manufacturing USA through hands-on projects focused on manufacturing, process improvement, automation, data analysis, and new product introduction (NPI).

Interns will be assigned a defined project based on business needs and academic background and will work under the guidance of an Engineering Manager or designated mentor. Assignments may support NPI, Test, Automation, Industrial, Process, or other engineering functions.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on project assignment:

  • Support engineering projects related to manufacturing, NPI, automation, testing, equipment, or process improvement.
  • Collect and analyze manufacturing, process, or equipment data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct time studies, cycle-time analysis, line balancing, capacity analysis, or process evaluations.
  • Assist with identifying production, quality, equipment, and process issues and support root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Develop or update dashboards, reports, tracking tools, technical documentation, and work instructions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality, Maintenance, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Communicate project progress, findings, risks, and recommendations.
  • Follow all safety, quality, ESD, security, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Present final project results and recommendations to Engineering and business leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Automation/Controls, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related STEM field.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering principles, manufacturing, data analysis, automation, or process improvement.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across teams, manage assigned responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Potential Project Areas

  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Production readiness, launch tracking, engineering dashboards, and product ramp support.
  • Test Engineering: Test performance, first-pass yield, statistical monitoring, data analysis, and engineering technology.
  • Automation Engineering: Equipment monitoring, automation systems, predictive maintenance, machine programs, and equipment reliability.
  • Industrial Engineering: Cycle-time studies, line balancing, layout optimization, capacity analysis, manpower planning, and productivity.
  • Process Engineering: Yield and scrap reduction, process mapping, root-cause analysis, SPC, and process improvement.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Work is performed in an ESD-controlled electronics manufacturing environment. The role may require standing for extended periods, walking within production areas, and interacting with manufacturing equipment. The position may require lifting up to 20 lbs, bending, reaching, and occasional movement of trays, carts, or equipment components. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required when working in designated production areas.
