Sioux Falls Lutheran School is looking for a High School Boys Basketball Junior Varsity Coach to lead and develop our JV athletes while supporting the overall vision of the boys basketball program.

This role is about more than wins and losses. You’ll help athletes strengthen their basketball skills, grow as teammates and leaders, and prepare for continued success within the varsity program—all while building a positive, disciplined, and Christ-centered team culture.

What You’ll Do

• Plan and lead effective JV practices focused on fundamentals, strategy, teamwork, and player development
• Coach and lead the team during JV games
• Provide individual instruction, feedback, and mentorship to help athletes grow
• Evaluate player performance and communicate development goals with athletes and coaching staff
• Prepare for opponents, implement game strategies, and make in-game adjustments
• Build a team culture centered on accountability, respect, discipline, humility, sportsmanship, and Christian values
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and team activities
• Work closely with the Varsity Head Coach and coaching staff to maintain consistency across the basketball program
• Support camps, clinics, off-season development, and other program activities as assigned

• Has a strong understanding of basketball fundamentals, rules, and strategy
• Can lead, teach, motivate, and mentor high school student-athletes
• Communicates effectively with athletes, families, coaches, and school leadership
• Values player development and growth alongside competitive performance
• Models positive leadership, sportsmanship, accountability, and Christian character
• Works collaboratively and supports the long-term development of the basketball program
• Supports the Christian mission and values of Sioux Falls Lutheran School

Previous coaching experience at the middle school, high school, or competitive level is preferred. A bachelor's degree and coaching certifications are also preferred.

This is a part-time, seasonal position for the 2026–27 school year. The JV Coach is expected to participate in scheduled practices, games, team activities, and other basketball program responsibilities throughout the season.

Coaches also participate in twice-monthly Coaching Huddles and support the school's 3D Coaching approach, with an emphasis on developing athletes through intentional goals, relationships, character, and growth.

Knowledge of First Aid/CPR and successful completion of required background screening are required.

JV basketball is an important step in an athlete's development. As the JV Coach, you'll have the opportunity to help student-athletes build the skills, confidence, discipline, and character they need to take their next step—both on and off the court.

You'll also be part of a collaborative, Christ-centered coaching team committed to building a strong and consistent basketball program.
