Business Development Consultant

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Business Development Consultant based in United States.

This role is designed for an entrepreneurial business development professional who can build relationships and turn strategic opportunities into sustainable growth.
You will own the full business development lifecycle, from prospecting and partnership development through proposals, negotiations, and closing.
The position focuses on expanding reach across education, nonprofit, healthcare, corporate, and public-sector markets.
You will work closely with senior leadership and internal delivery teams to understand client challenges and develop tailored workforce solutions.
The role combines consultative selling, strategic networking, market development, and hands-on pipeline management.
You will have significant autonomy to build relationships, identify opportunities, and create scalable business development processes in a growing environment.
Success requires a strong professional network, commercial drive, excellent communication skills, and a genuine ability to build trusted long-term partnerships.

Accountabilities:
  • Own the complete business development lifecycle, from prospecting and initial outreach through proposal development, contract negotiation, closing, and client handoff.
  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans designed to expand the client portfolio across corporate, nonprofit, healthcare, education, and government markets.
  • Identify, research, qualify, and pursue RFPs, RFQs, staffing opportunities, consulting engagements, and strategic partnership opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with executive leaders, HR professionals, hiring managers, procurement teams, and other organizational decision-makers.
  • Develop and nurture strategic partnerships with referral sources, chambers of commerce, workforce agencies, community organizations, and other relevant networks.
  • Lead proposal development and collaborate with senior leadership on client presentations, interviews, negotiations, and competitive opportunities.
  • Apply consultative selling techniques to understand organizational workforce challenges and position appropriate talent, consulting, and organizational solutions.
  • Collaborate with recruiting and operations teams to develop customized solutions aligned with client requirements and organizational capabilities.
  • Maintain an active and accurate sales pipeline, forecasting opportunities and tracking progress through the CRM system.
  • Monitor and report key business development metrics, including leads generated, discovery calls, RFP submissions, conversion rates, closed business, and revenue performance.
  • Represent the organization at networking events, conferences, industry days, business development meetings, and other relevant professional forums.
  • Research workforce trends, labor market conditions, procurement activity, emerging industries, and market opportunities to identify potential growth areas.
  • Contribute to broader growth strategy by identifying new markets, partnership opportunities, referral channels, and approaches to sustainable revenue generation.
  • Work closely with senior leadership and subject-matter experts to strengthen relationships and maximize opportunities for long-term client engagement.

Requirements:

  • 7–10 years of professional experience, including at least 5 years in business development, strategic partnerships, consulting sales, professional services sales, or external engagement.
  • Demonstrated success generating measurable business growth through qualified referrals, strategic partnerships, new opportunities, closed deals, and sustained revenue.
  • Proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding revenue or business development targets.
  • Experience managing complex, full-cycle sales processes from initial outreach through contract execution.
  • Strong consultative selling skills and the ability to understand organizational challenges and translate them into relevant strategic solutions.
  • Experience responding to RFPs, RFQs, competitive proposals, and other formal procurement opportunities.
  • Strong relationship-building, networking, presentation, communication, and negotiation capabilities.
  • Existing professional relationships within education, nonprofit, social impact, corporate, healthcare, or public-sector communities are highly valuable.
  • Experience using CRM platforms and dashboards to manage pipelines, track performance, forecast opportunities, and report business development metrics; ClickUp experience is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple opportunities, relationships, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Entrepreneurial, self-directed approach with the confidence to operate independently in an evolving environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with ambiguity, build processes where they do not yet exist, and take ownership of strategic initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior executives and organizational decision-makers.
  • Experience in the K-12 education sector, edtech, nonprofit organizations, or the broader social sector is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of government contracting, supplier diversity programs, procurement processes, or public-sector business development is advantageous.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience is preferred.

Benefits:

  • Flexible, remote-first contract engagement.
  • Estimated workload of approximately 20–25 hours per week.
  • Annual retainer of approximately $50,000–$55,000, equivalent to about $4,500 per month.
  • On-target earnings of up to $100,000 through commission opportunities and performance-based incentives.
