Senior Medical Writer (Medical Affairs)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Medical Writer (Medical Affairs) based in the United States.

The Senior Medical Writer will play a key role in developing high-impact scientific content across medical communications and multiple therapeutic areas.
You’ll translate complex clinical and scientific evidence into clear, compelling communications for healthcare professionals and other audiences.
The role combines scientific rigor, strategic thinking, medical storytelling, and collaboration across creative and client-facing teams.
You’ll contribute to a broad range of deliverables, from presentations and manuscripts to video scripts, digital content, and educational materials.
You’ll work closely with medical leaders, designers, project teams, clients, and key opinion leaders to bring evidence-based strategies to life.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced medical writer who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and takes pride in accuracy and quality.
The role is remote within the US or hybrid from select US offices and requires working Eastern US hours.

Accountabilities
  • Develop high-quality scientific and medical communication deliverables, including PowerPoint presentations, manuscripts, video scripts, executive summaries, participant materials, moderator guides, educational content, and digital solutions.
  • Conduct literature searches and scientific research to identify relevant, current, evidence-based clinical information and translate findings into accurate, audience-appropriate content.
  • Partner with medical leadership and cross-functional teams to develop medical storytelling, strategic recommendations, and communication approaches informed by scientific evidence, client insights, and the broader medical landscape.
  • Collaborate with presentation and graphic designers on illustrations, animations, and other creative applications of complex medical and scientific information.
  • Build relationships with clients and key opinion leaders, when assigned, and support the development and execution of medical communication strategies for healthcare professionals.
  • Review and quality-check content to ensure scientific integrity, accuracy, consistency, and alignment with applicable medical, legal, regulatory, and corporate requirements.
  • Support medical/legal/regulatory review processes, including preparing references, detailed reference notes, annotated materials, and submissions through relevant platforms.
  • Partner with account and project management teams to coordinate project activities, communicate priorities and changes, meet deadlines, and contribute effectively to internal and client meetings.
  • Mentor and support junior medical writers, sharing expertise and promoting high standards of scientific writing and collaboration.
  • Maintain strong awareness of applicable US laws, regulations, and industry requirements while delivering compliant medical communications.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, client-focused culture through strong communication, sound judgment, adaptability, and consistent attention to quality.
Requirements
  • Advanced degree in a healthcare-related discipline, such as MD, PhD, PharmD, MPH, or MS.
  • Typically 3–5 years of experience in medical education, scientific research, or clinical practice/insights, or 2–3 years of medical education experience within a pharmaceutical company or medical communications agency.
  • Experience developing promotional or nonpromotional medical communications for healthcare professionals is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with medical, legal, and regulatory review processes is preferred.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interpret complex scientific information and turn it into clear, compelling, and persuasive narratives.
  • Strong understanding of medical science and the ability to evaluate the relevance, validity, credibility, and quality of published medical literature.
  • Experience developing a variety of medical communication deliverables and, ideally, familiarity with multiple therapeutic areas.
  • Working knowledge of modern digital marketing practices and the responsible application of artificial intelligence technologies in healthcare communications.
  • Strong project and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deliverables, deadlines, and priorities while maintaining a high level of quality.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with medical, creative, account, project management, client, and external stakeholder teams.
  • High emotional intelligence, professionalism, resourcefulness, and sound judgment when communicating with colleagues, clients, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.
  • A proactive, adaptable, client-focused approach and a demonstrated commitment to accuracy, problem solving, and continuous improvement.
  • Willingness to work occasional nonstandard hours when required by project deadlines, deliverables, or urgent client needs.
  • Availability to work Eastern US hours and, when required, undertake moderate overnight or weekend travel of up to approximately 20%.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary: $90,000–$100,000 annual base pay, with final compensation determined by experience, skills, certifications, and location.
  • Remote or hybrid flexibility: Work remotely within the US or from select US office locations, depending on team and business needs.
  • Healthcare coverage: Access to medical, dental, and vision benefits, with offerings tailored to the employee's region.
