Production Worker / Machine Operator Production
Pittsburgh, PA
Full-Time | No Weekends
Starting at $19.00/hour + Union Benefits
The Production Worker / Packer is responsible for preparing products for shipment while also assisting in the fabrication of sheet metal components. This position includes assembling products, operating sheet metal fabrication equipment, picking materials from inventory, and packaging finished products for shipment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and committed to producing quality work in a safe and efficient manner.
Primary Responsibilities
* Set up and operate sheet metal fabrication equipment, including CNC punch presses, hydraulic press brakes (metal brakes), and metal shears.
* Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and shop drawings to produce parts to required specifications.
* Perform basic machine setup, tooling changes, and adjustments as required.
* Measure and inspect finished parts using tape measures, calipers, squares, and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and quality.
* Deburr, clean, and prepare fabricated parts for assembly or shipment.
* Receive incoming materials and verify packing slips for accuracy.
* Accurately pick materials and products from inventory according to work orders and customer orders.
* Assemble products and components following work instructions and quality standards.
* Inspect products for defects and verify quality before packaging.
* Package products securely using appropriate packing materials to prevent damage during shipment.
* Weigh, label, and prepare packages for shipment, ensuring all shipping information is accurate.
* Maintain inventory accuracy by reporting shortages, damaged materials, or discrepancies.
* Keep accurate production, shipping, and receiving records as required.
* Perform routine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance on machines and work areas.
* Follow all company safety procedures, machine operating guidelines, and quality standards.
* Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment when authorized.
* Perform other production, fabrication, and warehouse duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
* Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
* Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
* Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
* Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the workday.
* Ability to safely operate machinery after training.
Skills & Qualifications
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
* Mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn fabrication processes.
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and shop drawings.
* Ability to accurately use tape measures, calipers, and other measuring tools.
* Basic math skills, including reading fractional and decimal measurements.
* Good organizational, communication, and time management skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Dependable with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
* Previous experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or sheet metal fabrication environment.
* Experience operating CNC punch presses, hydraulic press brakes (metal brakes), and metal shears.
* Experience reading blueprints and using precision measuring tools.
* Forklift certification or previous forklift operating experience.
* Experience with shipping, receiving, packaging, and inventory control.
* Familiarity with preventive machine maintenance and safe machine operation.
