POSITION SUMMARY
McCarthys Renewables Groupislooking to add a Preconstruction Engineer to our St. Louis, MO or Phoenix, AZ office. The Preconstruction Engineers position establishes the fundamental principles for an individuals growth and success within McCarthys Preconstruction career path. The role will participate in all aspects of the bid/estimating process, including but not limited to review of plans and specs, soliciting and negotiating prices with subcontractors/suppliers, quantity take-off, pricing, scoping and bidding of construction process. This role is highly collaborative and will work closely with McCarthys internal teams as well as external subcontractors, suppliers, owners, and engineers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Estimating Support for Projects
- Reviews RFP documents and seeks value-add alternatives.
- Communicates with design partners to clarify scope of work and drive efficient, constructable designs.
- Performs quantity take-offs, develops wage rates, and utilizes historical data to develop accurate estimates.
- Analyzes project schedules and provides feedback.
- Works with team to identify and mitigate project risks.
- Coordinates with internal stakeholders to obtain team buy-in on estimates.
- Actively participates in the internal estimate review process.
- After the bid, collects and organizes all bid information for future reference.
- Aids field operations with change order pricing if needed.
Subcontractor Analysis for Bids
- Solicits subcontractors for bids.
- Directs, coordinates and provides information and documents to subcontractors.
- Evaluates subcontractor bids, identifies scope gaps, and validates pricing.
- Prepares contractual exhibits for scope of work for subcontracts.
Industry Knowledge / Relationships
- Builds relationships with subcontractors to obtain a competitive advantage for McCarthy.
- Attends industry events and represents McCarthy to the industry in a professional capacity.
- Builds and maintains relationships with internal McCarthy clients.
- Keeps current with latest estimating technology and techniques.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related major
- Basic knowledge of estimating technology and tools such as On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Bluebeam, or related software required.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications required
- Must demonstrate behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values while maintaining a "value added" approach to estimating.
- Strong math and analytical skills with attention to detail required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
- Results oriented able to produce clean and complete work products in a fast-paced environment.
- General knowledge of construction principles and processes, as well as negotiated/hard bids and GMP processes preferred.
