Job Description

Description:

CompQsoft is seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Junior Design Engineer & CAD Drafter to support our Navy Contract Client. This hybrid entry-level role combines hands-on Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drafting with foundational engineering analysis, design modeling, and technical documentation.

Working closely with senior engineers, architects, project managers, and contracting officers, you will convert engineering concepts, calculations, and sketches into precise, production-ready technical drawing packages. You will support Department of Defense (DoD), Commander Navy Installations Command (CNIC), and Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) project requirements across Navy installation infrastructure, information warfare systems, and fleet readiness operations.

Requirements:

Engineering Design & Analysis

  • Support senior engineers in translating functional requirements, system concepts, and technical specifications into initial design models and drawings.
  • Perform preliminary design calculations (e.g., basic sizing, fit/clearance checks, basic load/stress checks, or basic schematic routing) under engineering supervision.
  • Assist in evaluating design options, identifying spatial or structural conflicts, and proposing constructability solutions.
  • Participate in design reviews, peer code checks, and technical feedback iterations.

CAD Drafting & Modeling

  • Create, modify, and maintain detailed technical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and assembly layouts using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit, or related CAD/BIM tools.
  • Convert engineering sketches, site surveys, and marked-up drawings into fully compliant technical drawing packages.
  • Update existing drawing repositories to reflect as-built conditions, field modifications, and engineering change orders (ECOs).
  • Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs), hardware schedules, dimensional specifications, and geometric tolerancing data for manufacturing and construction.

Quality, Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure all drawing packages adhere to government standards, military specifications (MIL-SPEC), Navy technical documentation standards, and DoD requirements.
  • Maintain strict drawing file management, version control, and digital asset tracking within project management repositories.
  • Assist with proposal development by producing technical diagrams, graphics, and schematics for RFP responses and Site Surveys.
  • Help assemble project closeout documentation, technical data packages (TDPs), and final as-built packages.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Systems Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a closely related technical discipline; OR
  • Associate’s degree in CAD/Drafting Technology, Design Engineering Technology, or related field with 1–2 years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • 0 to 2 years of professional or internship experience in engineering design, drafting, or technical documentation.
  • Hands-on academic projects, capstone designs, or professional experience demonstrating proficiency in CAD modeling and technical drawing production.
  • Exposure to DoD, Navy, or defense contractor projects is a strong plus.

Technical Skills

  • Working knowledge of 3D Modeling / BIM platforms (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, or MicroStation).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and generate technical engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and mechanical/architectural layouts.
  • Basic understanding of dimensioning and tolerancing standards (GD&T) and material properties.
  • Familiarity with dynamic blocks, external references (Xrefs), and sheet set management.

Regulatory & Technical Standards Knowledge

  • Understanding of basic engineering fundamentals, building codes, and safety standards.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards for technical drawings (ISO 128, ISO 5457, ISO 7200).
  • Exposure to DoD drawing practices and specifications:

Security & Eligibility Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is Required (Mandatory for Navy/DoD program eligibility).
  • Must possess an active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Compliance with pre-employment drug screening per the Navy Drug-Free Workplace Program.
  • Adherence to DoD Directive 5500.07 (Standards of Conduct and Ethics).
