Associate Director, Incentive Compensation

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Associate Director, Incentive Compensation based in the United States.

The Associate Director, Incentive Compensation will serve as a strategic and technical leader supporting sales organizations through effective, data-driven incentive programs.
This role owns incentive compensation activities for assigned therapeutic areas, from plan design and modeling through analytics, communication, and operational execution.
You will translate complex performance data into actionable insights that help senior leaders make informed decisions about field motivation and business performance.
The position combines advanced analytics, commercial strategy, stakeholder management, and strong knowledge of incentive compensation practices.
You will partner closely with sales leadership, headquarters teams, internal stakeholders, and external data providers in a complex, highly collaborative environment.
Success requires balancing innovation and field effectiveness with governance, compliance, technical feasibility, and fiscal responsibility.

Accountabilities:
  • Provide strategic thought leadership across incentive compensation, including plan design, analytics, operations, communications, and project management.
  • Own incentive compensation activities for assigned therapeutic areas, ensuring high-quality, timely, and compliant delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with sales leadership, headquarters leadership, internal stakeholders, and external partners to drive alignment and effective execution.
  • Design and evaluate incentive compensation plan options, clearly presenting alternatives, advantages, disadvantages, expected impacts, and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Develop performance KPIs and health checks for incentive plans, evaluate plan effectiveness, and translate findings into actionable business recommendations.
  • Identify and solve complex incentive compensation challenges through innovative approaches that balance field needs, business objectives, technical feasibility, governance requirements, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Independently conduct incentive compensation modeling, simulations, and advanced analytics, using data to generate insights and support strategic decisions.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members, review analytical work, and maintain high standards for accuracy, quality, and consistency.
  • Prepare and deliver executive-ready presentations covering incentive compensation recommendations, performance results, analytical findings, and strategic opportunities.
  • Ensure incentive compensation activities adhere to established policies, governance processes, legal and compliance requirements, timelines, and operating standards.
  • Collaborate across the incentive compensation team to improve efficiency, effectiveness, field motivation, learning, development, and retention.
  • Support continuous improvement and innovation across incentive compensation processes, tools, methodologies, and stakeholder engagement practices.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university is required.
  • 8+ years of analytics experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or similarly complex industries supporting large, geographically dispersed sales organizations.
  • At least 4 years of demonstrated experience in incentive compensation with a strong record of achievement; relevant experience in medical devices, diagnostics, life sciences services, insurance, consumer health, or B2B environments is also valued.
  • Strong functional and technical expertise across incentive compensation design, analytics, operations, processes, and commercial business practices.
  • Hands-on experience performing incentive compensation modeling, simulations, analytics, and insight generation.
  • Strong solutioning and problem-solving capabilities, with an innovative approach grounded in field perspectives and technical feasibility.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical incentive compensation data, including specialty and rare disease environments, is highly valuable.
  • Familiarity with data suppliers such as IQVIA, Symphony, and specialty pharmacies is preferred.
  • Ability to translate complex analytical findings into clear recommendations for senior sales and business leaders.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to connect incentive compensation strategies with sales performance, field motivation, and broader business objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within governance frameworks, policies, compliance requirements, and established timelines.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, navigate ambiguity, and collaborate across functions in a complex organizational environment.
  • Knowledge of related Sales Operations functions such as forecasting, sizing, targeting, alignment, and call planning is preferred.
  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail, quality, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% as required.
