The Substation Engineer will lead the engineering and design of high-voltage electrical substation and switchyard projects.
The role combines technical engineering expertise with project leadership, coordinating multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle.
You will oversee multiple projects while balancing quality, schedules, budgets, and client requirements.
The position involves developing detailed electrical designs, performing power system analyses, and ensuring engineering deliverables meet applicable industry standards.
You will work closely with clients, vendors, engineers, designers, drafters, and project management teams to keep complex projects moving forward.

- Lead and manage high-voltage electrical substation engineering and design projects, ensuring delivery meets quality, schedule, and budget objectives.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams of engineers, designers, and drafters throughout project execution.
- Develop, review, and update engineering design documents, including one-line diagrams, electrical plans, specifications, and related drawings.
- Perform or oversee engineering analyses such as ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, load flow, and short-circuit studies.
- Prepare and manage project schedules and budgets, identifying deviations and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Serve as a primary technical point of contact for clients and vendors throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with project teams and management to coordinate engineering activities and resolve technical or project-related issues.
- Ensure engineering designs and deliverables comply with applicable standards and requirements, including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and effectively utilize document management systems.
- Identify potential project risks and technical challenges and develop practical solutions to maintain project progress.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering and design team members.
- Travel periodically as required to support project assignments and client needs.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution, preferably with a focus on power systems.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in high-voltage electrical substation engineering and design, particularly for systems rated 230 kV and above.
- Advanced understanding of high-voltage substation equipment and electrical systems.
- Strong knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals and three-phase power systems.
- Experience with engineering software used for substation design and electrical power system analysis.
- Ability to develop, interpret, and review engineering drawings, electrical plans, one-line diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, load flow, and short-circuit analysis.
- Strong understanding of applicable electrical engineering standards, including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
- Demonstrated ability to lead or supervise technical teams and coordinate work across multiple disciplines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, vendors, engineers, designers, and project leadership.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, schedules, and budgets simultaneously.
- Proficiency with standard business applications for word processing, spreadsheets, email, and project documentation.
- Familiarity with GIS applications is a plus.
- Willingness and ability to travel periodically based on project requirements.
