Job Description

Job Title: Tennis Assistant

Classification: Non-exempt/hourly

Job Status: Part-time

Reports to: Director of Sports & Recreation

POSITION SUMMARY

The Tennis Assistant is committed to the development of players of all ages and abilities.

This position focuses not only on skills and competition, but also sportsmanship and enjoying the game while running tennis activities with youth players.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Run day to day tennis activities with youth players
  • Teach various tennis fundamentals and concepts, run drills, orchestrate activities, and other creative events
  • Always maintain player safety including teaching proper usage of equipment, ensuring cooperation of players, explaining, teaching, and enforcing rules and discipline when appropriate and necessary
  • Report to Director of Racquets Sports disclosing all necessary details including but not limited to player safety, player development, drill feedback, etc.
  • Maintain an open line of communication, fair relationship with all players and coworkers, and an openness to feedback
  • Adhere to the rules and regulations governing the use of the facility, equipment, and property
  • Assist the Director of Racquet Sports on occasion with various other tasks including administrative work

Other Duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education/Experience Previous tennis teaching experience preferred
  • Maintain current CPR/AED Certification.
  • Experienced tennis player

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Should be able to think on their feet and be adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Be attentive to the needs of all the players.
  • Enjoys interacting with youth players of various ages and abilities.
  • Organized and attentive to detail to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all players.
  • Enjoy the outdoors, being active, and having fun.
  • Exhibit high energy, a positive attitude, and professionalism

Interpersonal, Customer Service & Communication Skills

  • Requires ability to effectively communicate JCC mission to staff, members. vendors and volunteers
  • Requires high-level skills in customer service/member care
  • Embrace and model the JCC Internal Service Standards of Respect, Gratitude, Communication, The Golden Rule, and Ownership/Accountability
  • Exemplifies personal qualities of integrity, credibility and unwavering commitment to the JCC’s mission

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Requires high energy and interaction with staff, youth participants, and community
  • There is a need for diligence, quick decision making and accountability for all actions
  • Ability to perform physical actions required to play tennis; ability to lift, move, and carry up to 40 pounds
  • Extended exposure to sunlight and outdoor elements is expected when outdoors
  • Indoor work environment conditions can fluctuate based on outdoor weather as well as capabilities of indoor HVAC
