Job Description

The Director of Instructional Development leads a team of Instructional Developers to generate and manage the content that forms the centerpiece of the instructional programs offered by Project Lead The Way. They collaborate closely with Product Managers to understand the content requirements for the program and ensure that those requirements are met, including expectations for quality, schedule, and budget. They also work with leaders from the Product Team and other departments to create project plans and development processes that enable the development team to meet the established requirements. The role requires deep subject-matter expertise, substantial experience in K-12 classrooms, and the ability to lead a team toward its goals. Occasional travel required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a team of instructional developers focused on a single product or product line, establishing best practices, coordinating priorities, allocating staff resources, and coaching team members toward continuous professional development.
  • Partner with product managers to provide recommendations about program content and to understand requirements for product-market fit.
  • Lead the design and development of new instructional materials for teachers and students, including providing approvals to confirm that the materials meet learning goals, curriculum standards, and other established requirements.
  • Lead the revision of existing instructional materials in response to changes in existing requirements.
  • Collaborate with vendors, advisory groups, and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful development and implementation of PLTW programs.
  • Identify and recommend potential opportunities to incorporate innovative methods and emerging trends within area of expertise.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field of study.
  • High School Computer Science teaching experience required.
  • Pedagogical knowledge of project- and problem-based learning.
  • Experience coaching, leading, and managing the work of others.
