Job Description
Position Summary
The Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, standards-based instruction that develops students' reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills. The ideal candidate is passionate about literacy, student achievement, and creating a positive classroom culture that inspires a love for reading and learning. Certified and qualified non-certified candidates are encouraged to apply.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan and deliver rigorous ELA instruction aligned with state standards and school curriculum.
Develop engaging lessons in reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and listening.
Foster a classroom culture that promotes literacy, critical thinking, and student engagement.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Utilize student performance data to inform instruction and intervention strategies.
Administer and analyze formative and summative assessments.
Encourage and support independent reading and writing.
Integrate technology and instructional resources into daily lessons.
Maintain accurate attendance, grade books, and student records.
Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and performance.
Collaborate with teachers, instructional coaches, administrators, and support staff.
Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, and school events.
Support school-wide academic and behavioral expectations.
Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
Qualifications
Certified Candidates
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Valid Florida Teaching Certificate in English Language Arts, English, Reading, or related field.
Non-Certified Candidates
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Education, Liberal Arts, or a related field preferred.
Willingness and ability to obtain Florida teaching certification within the required timeframe.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous middle school teaching experience.
Experience working in a charter school environment.
Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.
Knowledge of reading intervention and literacy development strategies.
Experience with curriculum planning and standards-based instruction.
