This role sits at the intersection of animation, rigging, and real-time engine implementation, supporting the creation of high-quality gameplay experiences within a cutting-edge game production environment. You will be responsible for building and maintaining animation pipelines that connect modeling, rigging, and in-engine execution, ensuring smooth performance and visual fidelity. The position involves working on both humanoid characters and mechanical assets within a sci-fi universe, requiring a blend of artistic sensibility and technical expertise. You will collaborate closely with artists, technical teams, and production to ensure assets are optimized for Unreal Engine 5 and aligned with the project’s creative direction. The environment is highly collaborative, fast-moving, and creatively driven, offering the opportunity to contribute directly to a major interactive IP. It is ideal for a technically skilled animator who enjoys solving pipeline challenges and bringing dynamic game worlds to life.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining animation systems and pipelines that support high-quality gameplay and cinematic experiences.
- Develop and maintain Maya and Unreal Engine 5 animation pipelines, including rigging, skinning, and asset export workflows
- Create high-quality gameplay animations aligned with the project’s artistic vision and design direction
- Animate both humanoid characters and mechanical assets within a sci-fi game environment
- Ensure smooth integration of animation assets into Unreal Engine, supporting real-time performance and fidelity
- Collaborate closely with technical artists to improve tools, workflows, and pipeline efficiency
- Work with 3D artists to ensure seamless handoffs between asset creation, rigging, and animation setup
- Take direction from the Art Director to maintain visual consistency and cohesive animation style
- Partner with production teams to provide accurate estimates, planning input, and timely asset delivery
The ideal candidate brings strong technical animation experience in game development, combined with deep knowledge of rigging, animation pipelines, and Unreal Engine workflows.
- 4+ years of experience in technical animation and gameplay animation within the game industry
- Strong proficiency in Maya and Unreal Engine 5
- Solid understanding of rigging workflows, including skeleton design and skinning for game-ready assets
- Experience managing animation scenes, exports, and referencing in Perforce-based pipelines
- Ability to work with both humanoid and mechanical animation systems
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to iterate quickly in a production environment
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills within multidisciplinary teams
- Comfortable working under creative direction while maintaining technical precision
- Portfolio/showreel required demonstrating relevant animation and technical work
- Competitive annual salary range of CAD $80,000 – $100,000
