Job Description – Industrial Cleaner/Facilities Technician
DEPARTMENT: Maintenance
JOB TITLE: Industrial Cleaner/Facilities Technician
REPORT TO: Maintenance Manager
SUMMARY:
The Industrial Cleaner/Facilities Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized manufacturing environment. This position supports production operations by cleaning equipment, work areas, common spaces, and facility grounds while ensuring compliance with company safety standards and housekeeping requirements. The Industrial Cleaner plays a critical role in maintaining a productive workplace and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clean and maintain manufacturing areas, production floors, warehouses, offices, breakrooms, restrooms, and other facility spaces.
- Remove metal chips, debris, dust, oil, coolant residue, and other waste materials from machines and work areas.
- Operate floor scrubbers, sweepers, vacuums, pressure washers, and other cleaning equipment as required.
- Empty trash and recycling containers and properly dispose of waste in designated areas.
- Replenish cleaning supplies as needed.
- Clean machine exteriors, guards, enclosures, windows, and work surfaces.
- Support maintenance personnel with facility housekeeping projects and equipment cleaning.
- Maintain outdoor areas including walkways, entrances, and parking areas as assigned.
- Follow all company safety procedures, environmental regulations, and OSHA requirements.
- Identify and report safety hazards, spills, equipment damage, or facility concerns to supervision.
- Maintain organized storage areas for cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Work effectively in a team environment and assist other departments when needed.
- Follow established cleaning schedules and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous industrial, janitorial, warehouse, or manufacturing cleaning experience preferred.
- Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals, equipment, and tools.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace cleanliness.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment as required.
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
DESIRED
- Experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and industrial housekeeping practices.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Ability to identify opportunities to improve workplace organization and cleanliness.
- Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to assist where needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting/Standing/Walking
- Approximately 10% of time is spent performing administrative or supply-related tasks.
- Approximately 90% of time is spent standing, walking, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and performing cleaning activities throughout the facility.
- Frequently lifts, carries, or moves objects weighing up to 25 lbs. and occasionally 50 lbs.
- Must have the ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- Must have ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, reach within hands and arm’s length, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for extended periods.
Speaking/Hearing
- Ability to speak, read and write English fluently.
- Clear diction, correct grammar, and acute hearing are necessary for effective communication with clients, vendors, management, and other employees.
Vision
- Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary to use computer screens effectively, identify hazards, inspect cleanliness standards, and safely operate cleaning equipment.
Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work may require occasional weekend and evening work.
