Job Overview

The Paraprofessional Technician provides vital applied behavior analytic (ABA) services for patients diagnosed with developmental disabilities, pediatric feeding disorders, or other behavioral diagnoses. Operating under the direct supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Licensed Psychologist within the RUCARES program at Children’s Specialized Hospital, this professional assists with patient assessments and treatment program implementation. The role balances direct clinical care with auxiliary program support, helping to organize data collection systems, support clinical research, and train caregivers to foster patient progress.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent educational credential (GED).
  • Active American Heart Association BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Ability to meet physical demands, including frequently moving, lifting, or transferring patients independently up to 50 pounds (and assisting with weights over 100 pounds).
  • Strong manual dexterity, stamina, and abdominal/lower back muscle strength to support patients safely without fatigue.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience working with patients diagnosed with developmental disabilities, pediatric feeding disorders, or challenging behavioral diagnoses.
  • Background in an educational, instructional, or therapeutic setting.
  • Familiarity with data entry, spreadsheet management, and basic statistical analysis.

Scheduling Requirements

  • Full-Time (FT) - Day

Essential Functions

  • Conducts therapeutic sessions with patients using standard ABA procedures under the direction of a professional behavior analyst.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of skill-acquisition programs (e.g., self-feeding, chewing, increasing food acceptance) and behavior-reduction programs (e.g., extinction protocols, functional communication training).
  • Prepares initial drafts of session materials, progress notes, and session descriptions while reporting behavior in observable and measurable terms.
  • Enters clinical assessment and treatment data into spreadsheets, graphs the data, and performs initial analyses to present recommendations to the BCBA.
  • Delivers caregiver training and support to parents, school personnel, and other stakeholders to ensure programmatic consistency.
  • Manages the organization, cleanliness, and maintenance of clinical materials, equipment, and the department facility.
  • Supports clinical faculty and behavior analysts with ongoing research activities, data collection protocols, and staff training.
  • Safely manages and utilizes non-violent crisis interventions for challenging behaviors, which may include aggression, self-injury, elopement, property destruction, or food expulsion.
