The Data Analyst is responsible for supporting institutional reporting, data analysis, and business intelligence development at Bluefield University. This position plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and accessibility of institutional data used for internal decision-making and regulatory reporting.
The Data Analyst develops reports, dashboards, and data analysis solutions that support academic, administrative, and operational functions across the University. This role works with institutional data originating from core enterprise systems including the Student Information System, enrollment management systems, and learning platforms. Through careful data analysis, system knowledge, and reporting expertise, the Data Analyst helps ensure that institutional stakeholders have access to accurate and meaningful information.
- Develops and maintains institutional reports required for regulatory and governmental reporting.
- Prepares and submits institutional research reports in accordance with established reporting requirements and timelines.
- Ensures accuracy and reliability of institutional data used in official reporting processes.
- Works with institutional stakeholders to gather data required for compliance and reporting needs.
- Develops data queries and reports using structured query language (SQL) and related database tools.
- Extracts, analyzes, and validates institutional data to support reporting, research, and operational needs.
- Identifies trends, inconsistencies, and data quality issues through analysis of institutional data sources.
- Supports departments across the University by providing reliable data for planning and decision-making.
- Designs and maintains dashboards and data visualizations that present institutional data in a clear and meaningful format.
- Works with institutional stakeholders to develop reporting tools that support strategic planning and operational analysis.
- Ensures dashboards and reporting tools are accurate, accessible, and easy to interpret.
- Works with enterprise system administrators to ensure data integrity across institutional systems.
- Supports validation of data originating from key institutional platforms such as the Student Information System, enrollment management systems, and learning platforms.
- Assists in identifying data inconsistencies and supports efforts to improve data accuracy across systems.
- Supports institutional data governance practices by helping ensure consistency and reliability of institutional data used for reporting and analysis.
- Works with system administrators and institutional stakeholders to clarify data definitions, reporting methodologies, and data sources used in institutional reporting.
- Assists in identifying opportunities to improve data quality, documentation, and reporting processes across institutional systems.
- Helps ensure that institutional data used in reports and dashboards is clearly defined, properly documented, and consistently interpreted across departments.
- Collaborates with departments across the University to understand reporting and data analysis needs.
- Assists in documenting reporting procedures and data sources used for institutional reporting.
- Supports ongoing improvement of institutional reporting processes and data management practices.

This position does not directly supervise employees.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EDUCATION/EXPERIENCEMinimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, information systems, computer science, statistics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working with structured query language (SQL) and relational databases.
- Experience developing reports and analyzing data for operational or institutional use.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills related to data interpretation and reporting.
- Ability to present complex data in clear and understandable formats.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working with institutional data in a higher education environment.
- Experience developing dashboards or business intelligence reporting tools.
- Familiarity with institutional reporting processes and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Experience working with enterprise systems and institutional databases.
ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS
This position primarily operates in an office environment and requires extended periods of computer use.

Evaluation of performance will be based on:
