Description:
Doggett Concrete Construction is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Crane Truck Operator/Driver to transport, load, and unload concrete wall forms and related equipment to and from active job sites. This role combines commercial driving responsibilities with crane/boom truck operation, requiring a hands-on professional who can safely maneuver heavy loads, operate mounted crane equipment, and coordinate closely with field crews to keep construction schedules on track.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a crane-equipped truck to transport concrete wall forms, panels, rigging, and related materials/equipment between the yard, storage locations, and active job sites.
- Operate the truck-mounted crane/boom to load, unload, lift, and place wall forms and equipment at job sites, ensuring proper rigging, weight distribution, and load securement.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections in accordance with DOT and company safety standards; report mechanical issues or needed repairs promptly.
- Inspect crane, cables, slings, chains, and rigging hardware before each use; identify and report wear, damage, or defects.
- Follow all applicable DOT, OSHA, and company safety regulations, including load limits, securement standards, and crane operating procedures.
- Coordinate with site superintendents, foremen, and crew members to schedule deliveries and pickups that align with project timelines.
- Maintain accurate logs, delivery records, and hours-of-service documentation as required by DOT regulations.
- Navigate job sites, including uneven terrain, tight access points, and active construction zones, exercising caution around personnel and equipment.
- Set up outriggers, stabilizers, and ground protection as needed to ensure safe and level crane operation.
- Communicate clearly with ground crew/spotters using hand signals or radio during lifting operations.
- Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of the truck and crane equipment.
- Assist with general yard duties, equipment staging, and other duties as assigned.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL Class A or B, as required by vehicle type).
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience operating a crane truck/boom truck, preferably in construction, concrete forming, or a related industry.
- Demonstrated knowledge of rigging techniques, load charts, and safe lifting practices.
- Clean driving record and ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screening.
- Ability to read and interpret load charts, site plans, and delivery schedules.
- Strong understanding of DOT and OSHA safety regulations related to commercial driving and crane operation.
Preferred Qualifications
- NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) certification, or willingness to obtain.
- Experience specifically transporting and setting concrete wall forms or similar construction materials.
- Familiarity with construction site logistics and coordination with field crews.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. regularly, and heavier items with mechanical assistance.
- Ability to climb in and out of the truck cab and crane operator station repeatedly throughout the day.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods on uneven job site terrain.
- Adequate vision, hearing, and hand-eye coordination for safe crane operation and vehicle maneuvering.
Work Schedule & Conditions
- Full-time position; early morning start times common to meet job site delivery windows.
- Occasional overtime or schedule adjustments based on project needs and weather conditions.
- Work is performed primarily outdoors at active construction sites.
