About This Position
The New England Center for Children (NECC) is seeking a full-time Occupational Therapist!
The Occupational Therapist is responsible for assessments, treatment plans, curriculum development, training for students and staff on his/her designated caseload.
Responsibilities:
- Complete triennial occupational therapy assessments for students as part of the clinical and educational re-evaluation process. This includes a written report, presented by OT at reevaluation. Assessment areas may include any of the following: gross motor skills, fine motor skills, oral motor and feeding skills, visual perceptual issues and activities of daily living.
- Prescribe appropriate adaptive equipment, classroom and residential accommodations.
- Complete initial assessment for new students once referred for OT services.
- Complete annual current performance sections on IEPs for all students on caseload and establish appropriate benchmark objectives for need areas.
Education/Curriculum Development:
- Participate in development of both departmental and school-wide curriculum, including submission of curriculum for the ACE®. Departmental curriculum development may encompass all areas under assessment areas.
- Provide support to case managers and clinical/educational specialists and supervise case managers in curriculum implementation through direct observation and modeling.
- Collaborate regularly with APE, PT and other related disciplines to maintain communication and a team approach regarding students.
Training and Supervision:
- Provide ongoing supervision of departmental programs in contexts including mealtime, gym sessions and classroom activities.
- Attend monthly classroom meetings or team meetings for assigned caseload to review student progress, present updated information or programs, and/or to address modifications needed to existing programs.
- Provide in-service training to teachers and other specialists as needed regarding service delivery, scope of practice and team/student-specific needs
- Successful completion of CALM training (non-violent self-defense)
- Complete all required NECC training classes in a timely fashion including annual training in OSHA, CPR, and 51-A
Research and Professional Development:
- Participate in research projects, including research design, data collection and presentation.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to maintain and expand knowledge in OT and special education fields.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy
- Board Registration approval
- Valid Driver’s license
- Red Cross CPR certification (child, adult, and AED) or CPR training completion through the agency within 6 months of employment.
- Experience preferred: 1-3 years experience in pediatrics, preferred
- Interested in working in a team environment with mentorship opportunities
