Job Description
Job Summary:
- Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the Pre-assessment clinic to prepare the patient for surgical clearance related to upcoming procedures at Forrest Health.
- The PA/NP is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation
- Performs complete histories and physical examinations
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests
- Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures
- Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation, including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
- Performs office procedures as appropriate to the patient population
- Practice cost effective medicine in an efficient manner, maximizing available resources.
- Discuss patient data with other physicians and professionals as appropriate in a multidisciplinary setting
- Demonstrate expert clinical judgment skills to function in an independent role
- Additional duties and responsibilities as required by the department
- Participates in departmental and organizational committees and programs as appropriate and attends all required meetings, in-services, and professional trainings.
- Maintains superior interpersonal and communication skills as a member of the healthcare team in order to collaborate effectively with patients, families, staff, and community health workers
- Remains actively involved in continuing education with a commitment to self and departmental growth
- Adhere to established policies, procedures, and precautions
- Demonstrates understanding of procedures, policies, and documentation required to ensure compliance with hospital standards of care
- The PA/NP must utilize knowledge of growth and development in the care of children (pediatric), adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Nurse Practitioner: Graduate of a recognized non-online RN, MSN program required.
Physician Assistant: Graduate from an accredited Physician’s Assistant educational program. Obtain CME in accordance with the requirements set forth by the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure.
Work Experience:
Previous work experience as a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner preferred.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
Nurse Practitioner:
Current license - Mississippi State Board of Nursing required. Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) required
Physician Assistant:
- Licensed to Practice in the State of Mississippi as a Physician's Assistant.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physicians' Assistants (NCCPA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within one-month of hire and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) preferred.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Licensed to Practice in the State of Mississippi as a Physician's Assistant.
