JOB SUMMARY:

Provides prescribed support to medical provider and personal care services to ill, injured, convalescent, and disabled person in the clinic setting by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the physician with patient care in an office setting.
  • Coordinate with all office staff to provide fast and efficient caring service to patients.
  • Perform necessary medical assisting duties for patients.
  • Call patient to examining room and prepare for physician’s examination.
  • Take and record patient vital signs.
  • Dress wounds, apply compresses, ice bags and hot compresses under physician or nurse supervision.
  • Observe patients and report adverse reaction to medication and/or treatment to provider or medical personnel in charge.
  • Report abnormal lab values to physician or provider.
  • Interpret PT/INR lab values and adjust Coumadin under the direction of physician or nurse.
  • Assist physician in all in-office procedure:
  • Suture/staple removal
  • Minor office surgical procedures
  • Prepare injections
  • Apply braces as directed by physician or nurse
  • Cast removal
  • Sterilize instruments and dressings per protocol
  • Schedule medical tests and appointments as directed by the physicians
  • Make sure physician appointments schedule is current and help execute some
  • Make necessary appointments
  • Cancel necessary appointments
  • Reschedule necessary appointments
  • Document no shows and review chart to see if follow up is required, if so call and reschedule appointment
  • Document any canceled appointments
  • Cover for other staff as necessary and requested.
  • Assemble equipment and stock examination rooms as necessary.
  • Attend required office meetings and participate in committees as required.
  • Refill prescriptions with physician or nurse supervision
  • Listen to voicemail and return patient calls in a timely manner following the clinical telephone protocols
  • Maintain all physician’s special forms and pamphlets
  • Knowledge of sterile and field and universal precaution techniques
  • Expand job related knowledge and skills to improve performance and adjust to change
  • Use interpersonal skills effectively to build and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Must be able to handle high levels of stress satisfactorily
  • Must be congenial and professional with fellow employees, patients, and community at all times
  • Communicate tactfully and honestly

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs and meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Knowledge of electronic equipment and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.

Education and Experience:

  • Medical experience preferred but not necessary. Maintain current CPR card.
  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

To successfully perform the essential function of this job the employee must meet the following physical demands described; reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to: stand, walk, use hand and fingers, arms to reach or move patient, to talk and to hear. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently to lift or move up to 25 pounds. Prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
