Work Schedule

This position is a (9/80) work schedule with nine hour shifts (7:00a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) Monday – Thursday and eight hour shifts on Friday (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) with every other Friday off.

Summary

Under the general direction of the Accounting Supervisor, the Staff Accountant performs professional accounting work including general ledger maintenance, payroll processing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, bank reconciliations, and month-end close activities. This position supports the District’s financial operations and ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards, policies, and internal controls.

This position requires knowledge and application of generally accepted accounting principles, public sector accounting practices, payroll processing, cash handling procedures, banking activities, internal controls, and accounting software systems. The Staff Accountant is expected to exercise independent judgment in performing accounting functions and preparing reconciliations, reports, and analyses.


  • Prepares journal entries and maintains the general ledger reconciliations.
  • Processes District payroll, including review of timesheets, deductions, benefits, and payroll reconciliations
  • Maintains payroll records and assists with payroll reporting and audits
  • Processes accounts payable, including invoice review, coding, approvals, and vendor payments
  • Processes accounts receivable, including billing, cash receipts, and customer account reconciliations
  • Performs daily and monthly cash receipt processing and reconciles cash activity
  • Prepares monthly bank reconciliations and investigates discrepancies
  • Analyzes general ledger accounts and prepares supporting schedules
  • Assists with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepares financial, account receivable, and general ledger reports
  • Maintains accounting records, files, and documentation in accordance with record retention policies
  • Assists with internal and external audits as assigned
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent, directly relevant accounting experience
  • Valid California Driver’s License, Class C.

Supervision Received and Exercised

  • Reports to the Accounting Supervisor
  • Exercises no direct supervision
  • Works collaboratively with internal departments, vendors, banks, auditors, and external stakeholders


Ability on a regular basis to sit for extended periods of time. Occasionally to be able to walk and/or stand. Regularly required to use hands, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. Ability to focus vision for close work and adjust at distances. Occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds. The noise level is quiet to moderate. On occasion exposure to the outdoor environment and weather conditions may be required.

Following a conditional job offer, the successful candidate will be required to take and pass a physical examination, including a drug and alcohol screen, and a thorough background investigation, including criminal history check, verification of a satisfactory DMV driving record, as well as detailed reference checks and employment verification.
