Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN)
Department: Emergency Services
Reports To: Director of Emergency Services
Summary
Provides comprehensive nursing care to patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Delivers and coordinates patient education while maintaining professional nursing standards and evidence-based practice. Promotes safe, high-quality patient care through adherence to infection prevention protocols, safety and emergency preparedness practices, advanced life support competencies, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assesses the physical, psychological, social, and developmental needs of patients, incorporating age-related considerations for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
- Performs patient triage to determine acuity and direct patients to the appropriate level of care.
- Provides nursing care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Implements nursing interventions according to established standing orders, clinical protocols, and provider direction.
- Accurately documents patient assessments, interventions, responses to treatment, and reassessments in the medical record.
- Assists with diagnostic testing, procedures, and treatments as appropriate within scope of practice.
- Provides patient and family education regarding health conditions, treatment plans, medications, follow-up care, and discharge instructions.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, providers, and interdisciplinary team members through verbal, written, and telephone communication.
- Promotes safe, high-quality patient care through adherence to infection prevention standards, safety practices, and emergency response protocols.
- Maintains competency in emergency and life-support skills required for the urgent care setting.
- Demonstrates respect for patient dignity, individual values, cultural differences, and confidentiality at all times.
- Serves as a patient advocate by supporting the bill of patient rights and facilitating access to appropriate care and resources.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives and supports organizational goals related to patient safety and clinical excellence.
- Maintains professional competence through ongoing education, training, certification, and participation in professional development activities.
- Contributes positively to a collaborative team environment and supports the personal and professional growth of colleagues.
Education and/or Experience
- A.A. or bachelor’s degree (B. A. or B.S.) from an accredited school of nursing; appropriate and clinical experience and/or training.
- Two years Urgent Care, Emergency Department or ICU nursing required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current Registered nurse licensure in the State of Minnesota. BLS certification is required every 2 years, and ACLS and PALS certification upon hire.
