The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics along with the Hillman Cancer Center at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine invites applications for an Associate Professor in the tenure stream position available immediately. We seek a highly motivated and innovative investigator to develop and lead an independent research program in viral oncology and cancer biology. The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge basic and translational research focused on the molecular mechanisms underlying virus-associated cancers and the identification of novel therapeutic strategies.

Responsibilities include designing and conducting innovative research studies; generating, analyzing, and interpreting complex molecular, cellular, genomic, and epigenetic datasets; and disseminating findings through publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international scientific meetings. The faculty member will be expected to establish and maintain an externally funded research program, mentor trainees and junior investigators, and contribute to the academic and research missions of the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. Applicants should have a demonstrated record of scientific excellence and innovation, with expertise in modern molecular and cellular biology approaches. Experience utilizing advanced methodologies such as CRISPR-based functional genomics, genomic and epigenomic analyses, RNA biology, and related technologies is highly desirable. Candidates should possess a strong publication record and evidence of the ability to maintain a nationally recognized research program with significant impact on cancer research and translational science. Salary is commensurate with experience. Applications from women and individuals from groups historically underrepresented in science and medicine are strongly encouraged to apply.
