Department: Casino Administration

Reports To: Lead Manager on Duty

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: Grade 2

Starting Wage: $49,701.00 - $62,127.12

Gaming Class: Compact/Gaming

Position Summary:

The Manager on Duty is responsible for the leadership, management, and supervision of all aspects of resort and casino operations in the absence of management. The Manager on Duty is empowered to ensure that the highest standards of customer service and hospitality are maintained and delivered through direct communication and interaction with customers/guests and employees. The Manager on Duty assumes responsibility for regulatory and policy compliance, supervision, staffing, and workplace relations of the various departments and their employees. The Manager on Duty displays the highest degree of professionalism, judgment, and decision making in all customer and employee interactions.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

The Manager on Duty will work under the general supervision of the Lead Manager on Duty. The Manager on Duty is delegated sufficient authority and empowerment to oversee the operations of all assigned departments in the absence of management.

  • Make regular rounds of the casino and resort – inquire of guests any problems or suggestions for improving guest services and operations.
  • Create and maintain a daily report as well as a daily call-in log. Distribute said reports and logs to specified leadership.
  • Provide personal contact to gaming customers and resort guests – respond to complaints in a patient and caring manner.
  • Arrange transportation of guests as needed.
  • Enforce company and departmental policies and SOP’s.
  • Provide coaching, counseling, and corrective action to staff as necessary.
  • Resolve conflict and disputes involving both customers and employees.
  • Coordinate and direct emergency operations.
  • Assist Security/EMS personnel with any and all accidents; Respond to all medical codes and emergencies.
  • Write all injury and incident reports as needed.
  • Assist Players Club, Casino Hosts, and Front Desk personnel as needed with guests.
  • Assist Bar staff, Security, and Tables Games Supervisors with alcohol service cut offs as needed.
  • Assist Food & Beverage staff as needed - may include opening duties until adequate coverage can be arranged.
  • Relieve employees as needed for breaks.
  • Ensure compliance with the National Indian Gaming Commission’s Minimum Internal Control Standards and the tribe/state gaming compact.
  • Ensure a safe, comfortable, and clean environment for guests.
  • Ensure frontline personnel in performing daily gaming operations are adequately supervised.
  • Maintain a well-groomed, professional appearance appropriate for the position and situation.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and role modeling for staff.
  • Monitor and ensure adequate staffing levels throughout the facility. Send employees home if overstaffed.
  • Conduct drug testing as needed and complete all necessary paperwork and reporting duties.
  • Carry radio and use proper radio etiquette at all times.
  • Exercise good judgement and decision-making.
  • Conduct self with self-confidence and poise; treat others with respect and dignity.
  • Maintain positive cooperative working relationships with customers, community, and persons superior or subordinate to this position including peers and front line staff.
  • Provide a standard of attendance and punctuality. Set a positive example. Always provide adequate notification in advance of absence and make contingency plans for coverage of duties when absent.
  • Complete all assigned and expected obligations in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications – Education and Experience:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have knowledge and /or experience with gaming and hospitality management operations.
  • At least one year of experience in a leadership role and a willingness to take additional leadership training.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possesses a working knowledge of the Minimum Internal Control Standards for Indian Gaming to ensure compliance by all gaming departments.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and leadership.
  • Possesses strong communication skills with an ability to talk to others in a non-threatening manner to convey information effectively and appropriately.
  • Demonstrates safety consciousness.
  • Possesses self-motivation and the ability to work well under stress.
  • Highly responsible and reliable with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to consistently exercise common sense and good judgment in decision-making.
  • Ability to write reports and enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in written or electronic form.
  • Possesses strong conflict resolution skills and ability to maintain composure when dealing with difficult and irate customers.
  • Have 4 years experience working in a leadership role.
  • Have a valid Driver’s License and be insurable under the company’s liability insurance program.
