About the Role:

The Advanced Certified Medication Aide (ACMA) plays a critical role in healthcare settings by safely administering medications to patients under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. This position ensures that patients receive the correct medications at the appropriate times, contributing directly to their health and well-being. The ACMA is responsible for monitoring patients for adverse reactions and reporting any concerns promptly to nursing supervisors. This role requires a thorough understanding of medication protocols, patient confidentiality, and adherence to healthcare regulations. Ultimately, the ACMA supports the healthcare team by enhancing medication management efficiency and improving patient care outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of an approved Advanced Certified Medication Aide training program.
  • Current certification as an Advanced Certified Medication Aide (ACMA) in the United States.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening as required by the employer.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Additional certifications in patient care or medication administration.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer prescribed medications to patients accurately and timely according to established protocols.
  • Monitor patients for side effects or adverse reactions and report observations to nursing staff immediately.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate medication records and documentation in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Assist nursing staff with patient care activities as needed, including vital signs monitoring and basic patient support.
  • Ensure medication storage areas are organized, secure, and comply with safety standards.
  • Communicate effectively with patients to provide medication instructions and answer basic questions within scope of practice.
  • Participate in ongoing training and certification renewal to stay current with medication administration standards.

The ACMA utilizes strong attention to detail and organizational skills daily to ensure accurate medication administration and documentation. Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with patients and healthcare team members, ensuring clarity and safety in medication delivery. Critical thinking and observational skills are applied to monitor patient responses and identify potential medication-related issues promptly. Familiarity with healthcare technology, such as electronic health records, enhances efficiency and accuracy in record-keeping. Additionally, the ACMA employs time management skills to balance medication schedules with other patient care responsibilities, maintaining a smooth workflow in fast-paced healthcare environments.
