Position Details:
Firehawk Aerospace is seeking a dynamic and experienced Government Affairs Manager to lead and execute our government relations, legislative affairs, and strategic communications initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of engaging with senior government officials, managing federal budget and defense acquisition processes, and driving successful legislative and appropriations outcomes. This role will be instrumental in shaping Firehawk’s public policy strategy, securing funding, and advancing our interests with key stakeholders across the Department of Defense, Congress, and related agencies.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement comprehensive government affairs strategies to support Firehawk’s business objectives in the defense and aerospace sectors.
Build and maintain relationships with senior officials in the Department of Defense, Congress (including SASC, HASC, HAC-D, SAC-D), and other relevant agencies.
Lead and coordinate executive and legislative engagements, including meetings, briefings, and strategic communications.
Monitor, analyze, and influence federal budget, appropriations, and defense acquisition processes relevant to Firehawk’s programs.
Draft and support proposals, position papers, and legislative language for key programs and initiatives.
Serve as a liaison between Firehawk and Congressional offices, representing the company’s interests on matters related to missile defense, munitions, radar, hypersonics, and advanced technologies.
Support the preparation of testimony, speeches, and briefing materials for senior leadership.
Manage and grow Firehawk’s government affairs team and internal/external communications to complement advocacy efforts.
Track and report on legislative and regulatory developments impacting the company’s business.
Represent Firehawk at industry conferences, think tanks, and public forums.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Military Studies, or a related field; Master’s degree in Legislative Affairs or similar preferred.
10+ years of experience in government relations, legislative affairs, or a related field, preferably within the defense or aerospace industry.
Demonstrated success in securing federal funding, influencing appropriations, and managing high-level government engagements.
Strong understanding of the federal budget process, defense acquisition, and legislative procedures.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting proposals, legislative language, and strategic communications.
Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with senior government officials and Congressional staff.
Experience leading and mentoring teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with social media and public affairs to support advocacy and communications.
Familiarity with missile defense, munitions, radar, hypersonics, and advanced defense technologies.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
ITAR Requirements:
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require minimal walking, standing for extended amounts of time, climbing, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat.
Security Clearance:
May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
