The Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) will be responsible for sourcing and originating secondary market and in-house mortgages. This position will support the bank by developing relationships with referral partners and customers alike, resulting in increased loan demand.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear, polite and professional communication in-person, via phone, chat, and email to internal and external customers
  • Conduct business development efforts within the Carbon County market as well as the greater Wyoming market.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with real estate agents, builders, financial planners, divorce attorneys, and other professions which could serve as referral partners.
  • Responsible for discussing loan options with borrowers to assure that each borrower receives the best possible loan type for their needs based upon factors such as DTI, LTV, and other qualifying ratios.
  • Master the bank’s technology stack, including the LOS, POS, PPE, and CRM.
  • Assure all Federal & State regulations are adhered to.
  • Assists in the coordination among all parties in the mortgage lending process.
  • Operate within a team environment and effectively communicate with customers, lenders, processors, closers and underwriters.
  • Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Work directly with management to develop and execute upon production goals.
  • Manage a pipeline of loans, ensuring that each loan receives the appropriate level of attention and transitions through the approval process quickly and efficiently.
  • Monitor the underwriting guidelines associated with each loan program to assure that customers are utilizing a program that allows for their specific scenario.
  • Manage the rate lock process, ensuring that target yields are met.
  • Gather applications as well as underwriting documents, ensuring that they are complete and align with document requirements.
  • Be available to accept prequalification and loan applications outside of normal business hours and weekends.
  • Recommend additional bank offered products and services as appropriate.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

3 or more years of experience working within a lending or banking role is strongly preferred.

Familiarity with financial documents such as paystubs, bank statements, and profit & loss statements is preferred but not required.

A working knowledge of consumer real estate loan products is preferred but not required.

A bachelor's degree in a financial services related field is preferred but not required.

Consistently demonstrate a positive, welcoming, friendly, polite, patient, and professional attitude. Ability to actively listen, ask effective questions, build rapport and trust, explain information clearly, take ownership of customer needs, remain calm when concerns arise, and work toward practical solutions.

Language Ability:

Ability to understand complicated situations and communicate them in a succent and efficient manner. Must be fluent (reading/writing/speaking) in English. The ability to read, write, and speak Spanish is preferred but not required.

Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, ratios, percentage, basis points, and proportions.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Able to adjust quickly to different work situations; remain composed under pressure and in stressful situations. Team player who must embrace change and see change as opportunity. Must be willing to express and support management’s ideas to affected staff.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the ability to adapt to new technological systems such as an LOS, a POS, and various investor portals. Knowledge of Word and Excel is preferred but not required.

Certificates and Licenses:

Accredited Mortgage Processional and/or Certified Mortgage Banker designations are a plus, but not required. Existing NMLS registration/licensing preferred.
