Env Scientist, EIR in Kellogg, Idaho at WSB and Associates

Forge ahead with WSB. We are seeking a Environmental Scientist, EIR to join our growing team.The Environmental Scientist supports environmental assessment, investigation, remediation, and risk management projects through multidisciplinary collaboration, environmental sampling and monitoring, data evaluation, and preparation of technical and regulatory documents. The role requires strong scientific judgment, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple offices.

What you will do:

• Contribute to environmental assessment, investigation, remediation, and risk management projects as a technical team member or project lead, as assigned.
• Plan, develop, implement, and monitor environmental sampling programs, monitoring activities, and pilot projects.
• Conduct or oversee environmental investigation and community outreach activities associated with the Bunker Hill Superfund Site in Northern Idaho.
• Conduct environmental site assessment and human health risk management activities for the Bunker Hill Superfund Site and other project locations.
• Prepare and review quality assurance project plans, data summary and evaluation reports, data validation reports, human health and ecological risk assessment and risk management reports, and other site-related technical documents.
• Direct, evaluate, and interpret environmental data analyses to determine whether risk-based standards are met and whether additional action is warranted.
• Perform data verification, validation, summarization, and analysis in accordance with applicable project requirements.
• Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams across multiple offices.
• Communicate professionally with clients, regulatory agencies, tribal entities, public health agencies, and members of the public.

• Traverses job sites having uneven terrain and slopes and ascends/descends into job site areas to complete inspections and data collection occasionally.
• Moves materials and/or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Operates equipment that requires fine motor skills.
• May remain in stationary position for extended periods.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What you will bring:

• Education:
  • MS degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Toxicology, Public Health, or a related science discipline; or BS degree in one of these disciplines and 3+ years of relevant environmental consulting, site assessment, remediation, or risk assessment experience.
• Required Experience:
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail
  • Strong scientific/technical capabilities, along with organization, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with environmental monitoring techniques; design of sampling experience incorporating GIS tools into environmental assessment, remediation, planning, or data management projects.
  • Experience working with federal, state, and/or tribal environmental/public health agencies.
• Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with CERCLA and related federal and state regulations and guidance (e.g., USEPA RAGs, Idaho REM and Washington MTCA)
  • Experience at hazardous waste sites (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, brownfields, UST/LUST) sites, particularly those located in the Pacific Northwest
  • Solid knowledge of data and statistical analysis (working knowledge of R or SAS or other statistical software)
• Licenses/Certifications:
  • Possession of a valid drivers license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate a motor vehicle is required.
• Software:
  • Microsoft Suite Products (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc).
• Working Conditions/Schedule/Location:
  • Work is performed in both an office and field setting; must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to work onsite at a WSB office, as needed, up to five days per week, as required by the project, client, or hiring manager.
