Description:

Join Our Growing Legacy! We are a 5th generation, family-owned family of companies with a rich history in Kansas City and a strong commitment to quality, service, and innovation. As we continue to expand, we’re seeking an experienced Freight Broker/Logistics Specialist to join our Freight team.

WE HAVE AN IMMEDIATE NEED FOR AN EXPERIENCED FREIGHT BROKER/LOGISTICS SPECIALIST

About the Role

Scavuzzo’s/5G Freight is seeking an experienced, high-energy Freight Broker / Logistics Specialist to manage a full desk. In this role, you will manage end-to-end freight operations—quoting, booking, tracking, and negotiating rates with carriers while maximizing gross margin and expanding client accounts.

What You'll Do

  • Manage a Full Desk: Handle customer and carrier relationships from start to finish—quoting, booking, tracking, and troubleshooting shipments across multiple lanes.
  • Carrier Sourcing & Negotiation: Build and maintain a strong carrier network; negotiate rates, secure capacity, and maximize service levels and gross margin on every load.
  • Grow Current Accounts: Build trust with existing customers through consistent service, proactive communication, and thoughtful supply chain recommendations.
  • Solve Problems with Urgency: Calmly and creatively resolve time-sensitive logistics disruptions, communicating effectively with carriers and clients when plans change.
  • Own Your Metrics: Track revenue growth, gross margin, load count, and customer satisfaction metrics to consistently meet and exceed operational goals.
  • Build Long-Term Relationships: Operate with empathy and a solution-focused mindset, building a portfolio of clients who view you as a trusted partner.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Partner with internal leadership, finance, and technology teams to streamline execution and optimize customer experience.

What We're Looking For

  • Brokerage Experience: 2+ years of experience in 3PL freight brokerage, freight booking, or full-desk freight coordination required.
  • Negotiation & Sourcing: Proven track record of sourcing carrier capacity, negotiating spot/contract rates, and managing load boards.
  • Tech & Industry Knowledge: Hands-on experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), ELDs (GEOTAB preferred), and DOT Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
  • Drive & Urgency: Exceptional problem-solving abilities, high attention to detail, and a goal-oriented mindset focused on driving gross margin.

Physical & Travel Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, communicate via phone/email, and operate computer equipment.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and occasionally drive or ride in a motor vehicle.

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, or 3+ years in the field or in a related area, or suitable combination of education and relevant experience preferred;
  • Extensive knowledge of DOT HOS Regulations and OSHA regulations;

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills;
  • Problem solver with the ability to implement process improvement;
