Maymont is a 100-acre historic estate and park, located in Richmond, Virginia, with many unique experiences for all to enjoy, including the historic Maymont Mansion, The Robins Nature Center, arboretum, formal gardens, and habitats for native Virginia wildlife and farm animals. Since 1975, Maymont has been maintained and operated by the nonprofit Maymont Foundation, committed to creating experiences that delight, educate and inspire its guests.

The Maymont Foundation is seeking a part-time Public Safety Associate who will serve as a guest experience ambassador for all Maymont visitors. The Public Safety Associate is responsible for monitoring the property on a regular basis, proactively engaging with guests, and responding to emergent situations, acting as a liaison with law enforcement, fire, EMS and local agencies. This position reports to the Public Safety Supervisor.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures a safe, friendly environment for guests by respectfully communicating Maymont rules as applicable
  • Conducts routine, scheduled rotations of grounds and facilities on foot, by golf cart, and by vehicle to monitor property, including gardens and grounds, facilities, animal habitats, parking lots and open areas
  • Responds immediately to public safety needs, security requests and emergency situations, coordinating responses by local law enforcement, fire, EMS and local agencies as necessary
  • Documents incident responses, reports to appropriate channels, and provides follow-up as required
  • Secures, locks and alarms all buildings, gates and facilities to ensure the physical security of the property after hours
  • Supports cash-handling, collection, and transport according to established procedures
  • Supports the organization’s mission and vision, including assisting with special events, programs and activities across Maymont
  • Assists with other duties and tasks as required
Requirements:

Competencies:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, special events and holidays
  • Ability to present a polite and courteous manner toward visitors
  • Ability to adhere to safety standards and recognize safety warnings and hazards
  • Ability to interpret and explain Maymont policies, rules, and procedures to the public
  • Ability to use a two-way radio
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR or willingness to become certified through employer-provided training
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle under a valid Virginia driver’s license
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED
  • Previous work-related experience in customer service or security preferred
  • Valid driver's license required with reliable transportation to/from Maymont

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking and talking for extended periods
  • Frequent climbing, bending, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work inside and outside in all-weather conditions
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

FLSA Status: Part-time, hourly
