We are seeking an Automation & Electrical Systems Technician to support highly automated manufacturing equipment and production systems. This role focuses on troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical, electronic, and control systems while helping improve equipment reliability and operational performance.
The ideal candidate has experience with industrial electrical systems, PLC-controlled equipment, and automated production machinery.
Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting- Maintain and troubleshoot automated filling, packaging, and production equipment.
- Diagnose and repair electrical, electronic, and electromechanical systems.
- Troubleshoot PLCs, operator interfaces, variable frequency drives (VFDs), servomotors, and encoders.
- Perform repairs involving starters, relays, fuses, breakers, wiring, terminal blocks, and other electrical components.
- Support hydraulic, pneumatic, and process-control systems as needed.
- Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems, safety devices, and production equipment.
- Inspect and evaluate electrical control systems to identify potential issues before failures occur.
- Maintain equipment in a validated operating condition to support product quality and production efficiency.
- Ensure machine guards, safety interlocks, and protective devices remain functional and compliant.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, control diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Develop and document methods of operation for electronic and automated systems.
- Assist maintenance teams with troubleshooting and corrective actions.
- Identify and order replacement components required for repairs.
- Communicate equipment issues, root causes, and solutions effectively with team members and leadership.
- Follow established lockout/tagout procedures and electrical safety practices.
- Maintain compliance with applicable quality, regulatory, and safety requirements.
- Support workplace organization and housekeeping initiatives.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Virginia Journeyman Electrician License or equivalent technical education and training.
- Working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems used in manufacturing environments.
- Experience troubleshooting PLCs, VFDs, electrical controls, and automated equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and complex technical drawings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work overtime when required.
- State certification or documented training related to the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Experience supporting highly automated manufacturing equipment.
- Familiarity with process controls, server-based systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
