Description

Position: Senior Estimator

Location: York, PA

We are seeking a Senior Estimator responsible for leading the preparation and coordination of conceptual and final cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, ensuring accurate and competitive bids. This role analyzes plans and specifications, performs quantity take-offs, collaborates with project stakeholders, subcontractors, and management teams, and provides technical expertise throughout the bidding, negotiation, and contract award process. The Senior Estimator also mentors estimating staff, supports bid strategy decisions, and maintains estimating systems and processes to drive efficiency and successful project pursuits.

This is a safety sensitive position requiring work on construction sites with various safety hazards inherent in heavy construction. This position is subject to drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.

Wagman is a multi-faceted construction firm with operations in heavy civil, general construction and geotechnical construction services. Founded in 1902, Wagman is a fourth-generation family-owned company with offices in Pennsylvania and Virginia. Wagman Heavy Civil Inc. has grown to become a nationally recognized leader within the industry. Wagman Heavy Civil Inc’s core competencies include design-build, infrastructure, marine construction, modified concrete, grooving and grinding and geotechnical construction services.

Qualifications:

• Strong math and analytical skills as well as an eye for detail.

• Technical knowledge of structural bridge construction

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare and/or coordinate preparation of full estimates on work.

• Provide complete conceptual and final estimating input on work.

• Interact with owners, A/E’s and contractors to resolve technical matters during negotiation and contract execution.

• Supervise and mentor other estimators.

• Maintain and develop systems and information needed to prepare bids.

• Make necessary pre-bid contacts with other contractors and sub-contractors for quotes, coordination and scheduling.

• Perform and organize quantity take-offs from plans.

• Perform preliminary survey of plans and specifications for bid/no bid decision by Division Managers.

• Coordinate bidding process with managers

Education:

Required: High School graduate or equivalent

Preferred: Associates Degree or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related

Experience:

• 5+ years of construction estimating experience

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds from ground level to waist level

• Must be able to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands.

• Acceptable corrected vision (in both eyes) and acceptable corrected hearing required.

• Required to frequently stand and walk on uneven surfaces throughout all or a major portion of a scheduled work shift when making job-site inspections/visits.

• Must be able to bend, squat, kneel and crawl.

• Must be able to work outdoors in wet, muddy, cold, hot or humid weather.

• When in the office or other locations in meeting-type situations will sit a major portion of an 8-hour day.
